  • Publication number: 20090317161
Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for a portable printer are provided. Personnel utilize features of the printer to manage products, store information on labels, and aid in shipping. A low battery shut-off feature shuts down the printer at a set battery power percentage; a battery charge control feature controls battery charging to stay within a set range of state of charge values to ensure longer battery life; a ribbon cartridge insertion feature allows for easy replacement of the ribbon cartridge; ribbon cartridge locating features lock the ribbon cartridge into place for printing; a ribbon guiding feature adjusts the ribbon during printing to reduce wrinkles; an RFID coupler mounting feature mounts and shields an RFID coupler inside the printer; a media guide locking feature fixes the media position to prevent misalignment; and a media alignment feature allows the user to properly align the media with the printhead during installation.

  • Patent number: 7489902
Abstract: A device is provided that is capable of simultaneous communication over multiple wired and wireless networks. The device is capable of processing data received simultaneously over multiple networks by storing the data in data buffers and using a polling routine to retrieve the data from the data buffers. The device is capable of preventing interference when communicating over multiple wireless networks in the same frequency band by monitoring the frequency channel used by one of the wireless networks and controlling the frequency channels used by the other wireless networks.

  • Patent number: 7066754
Abstract: An electrical connection for communicating between electrical terminals is provided, as is a collar for retaining the cable of such a connection and associated methods. The connection can include a first modular connector engaged to a first electrical terminal of a printer, a second connector engaged to a second terminal, and a cable extending between the first and second connectors. The first terminal of the printer can be configured to communicate via a first plurality of electrical contacts using a USB protocol and via a second plurality of electrical contacts using another protocol. In some cases, a third connector can be provided on the cable such that the first terminal can communicate to the second connector using the first protocol or to the third connector using the second protocol. The collar can be slidably disposed on cables of various configurations and engaged to a terminal to secure one of the connectors on the cable to the terminal.

  • Patent number: 6409401
Abstract: A portable printer is provided having a printer mechanism capable of printing on media and an RFID encoder for encoding information onto RFID circuits coupled to the media. The printer mechanism and RFID encoder are contained in the housing of the printer with a programmed controller for controlling the printer mechanism and RFID encoder. The printer mechanism includes a print head and motor for driving a platen roller to advance the media across the print head and passed the antenna of the RFID encoder. The media may be stored in a compartment in the housing on a roll or fan-fold in which multiple RFID circuits are provided along the length of the media. The programmed controller in the housing operates, responsive to communication received from a host terminal or computer, to send information to the print head to print information on the media and/or information to the encoder to encode the RFID circuit.
