  • Patent number: 6996746
Abstract: One embodiment of the invention is directed to a data processing system that includes an electrical detection circuit to determine whether the electrical power is going from “on” to “off,” or changing from “off” to “on;” a peripheral device, including a processor to calculate the amount of electrical energy required for the peripheral device to perform a task; a task queue for the peripheral device that can be read to find a task if the electrical power is going from “on” to “off;” and a non-volatile memory, including a task queue to store data describing the task if insufficient electrical energy remains available to the peripheral device to complete the task.

  • Patent number: 6889202
Abstract: An Internet print device font distribution method and web site. Font users are visitors to a web site that allows browsing and obtaining of fonts, either individually or in groups. Preferably, purchases are made through the web site, but the method may allow installation of fonts through the web site as a result of other authorizations, e.g., an electronic coupon for visitors or a tie-in to other products, services, and web sites. Web site functions include operating system compatibility matching. The web site obtains configuration information to insure compatibility of a font to a visitor's configuration. Software on the web site downloads, installs and configures fonts on the visitor's print device.

  • Publication number: 20040084971
Abstract: A method and apparatus to handle power supply failures to a peripheral device in a data processing system. One embodiment of the invention involves a method to handle a power failure during the performance of a task, wherein the peripheral device receives electrical power from a power supply, and the peripheral device is part of a data processing system that also contains a non-volatile memory. The method includes monitoring the power supply to determine whether the electrical power is going from “on” to “off,” or going from “off” to “on.

  • Publication number: 20030016393
Abstract: An electronic service transaction apparatus includes a computer peripheral device. The computer peripheral device has a communication link with an electronic service site and a messaging system operative to provide store and forward capabilities with the electronic service site. The communication link connects the computer peripheral device with the Internet. The messaging system is accessed directly by the computer peripheral device to initiate an electronic service transaction from the computer peripheral device with the electronic service site. A method is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20020138486
Abstract: A system and method for providing web browser trail markers are disclosed. The system includes a computer and a memory operable to store a single reference to a web page. The system also includes a browser coupled to the memory and operable to execute on the computer. The browser includes a first button and a second button, and, the browser, in response to activation of the first button, stores a reference to a currently accessed web page in the memory, and, in response to activation of the second button, accesses a web page referenced by the reference stored in the memory. The method includes providing a memory location operable to store a reference to electronic content. The method also includes providing a user interface that is operably coupled to the memory location. The user interface includes a first button and a second button, and the user interface is operable to display electronic content.

  • Publication number: 20020075519
Abstract: A system and method for routing a communication originally directed to an original destination to a secondary destination. The original destination and the secondary destination are each one of a voice communication phone number, a fax communication phone number, and an e-mail address. User profile information provided by a user is received and stored. The user profile information identifies the secondary destination. The user profile information includes routing information associating the original destination with the secondary destination. A communication originally directed to the original destination is converted into a format compatible with the identified secondary destination. The converted communication is routed to the secondary destination based on the user profile information.
