  • Patent number: 8697160
Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter is directed to an article that enables on-demand blooming of an oxygen-sensitive product packaged within the interior of the article. Specifically, the product can be packaged between two films, wherein at least one of the films is oxygen-permeable. The edges of the films can be attached to one or more suspension frames, such that the product is suspended between the two frames. The oxygen-impermeable film is covered in with an oxygen-impermeable material that can be removed on demand to promote blooming.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 2009
Date of Patent: April 15, 2014
    Assignee: Cryovac, Inc.
Inventors: Michael Lee Becraft, Joseph E. Owensby, Blake Coates, Donald Keith Moore, Jr., Slawomir Opuszko, James A. Mize, Eugenio Longo

  • Patent number: 6464896
Abstract: An improved composition and a method of scavenging oxygen using said composition which comprise oxidizable organic compounds, transition metal catalysts in combination with certain photoinitiators is disclosed. The method comprises initiating scavenging by exposing the composition to UV radiation. The present composition uses certain defined benzophenone derivatives which maintain effectiveness of photoinitiation while providing reduced migration of the photoinitiator from the resin matrix.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 24, 2000
Date of Patent: October 15, 2002
    Assignee: Cryovac, Inc.
Inventors: Drew Ve Speer, Thomas Andrew Blinka, Michael Lee Becraft, Charles Robert Morgan

  • Patent number: 5811027
Abstract: An improved method of initiating oxygen scavenging by compositions which comprise compounding oxidizable organic compounds and transition metal catalysts to form a composition suitable for forming into films or articles for packaging of oxygen sensitive products is disclosed. The method requires the addition of small amounts of a base to the oxygen scavenging composition as it is being compounded to improve the initiation properties and subjecting the film or article formed from the composition to actinic or electron beam radiation.
