Patent number: 11921597Abstract: One or more techniques and/or computing devices are provided for cross-platform replication. For example, a replication relationship may be established between a first storage endpoint and a second storage endpoint, where at least one of the storage endpoints, such as the first storage endpoint, lacks or has incompatible functionality to perform and manage replication because the storage endpoints have different storage platforms that store data differently, use different control operations and interfaces, etc. Accordingly, replication destination workflow, replication source workflow, and/or a proxy representing the first storage endpoint may be implemented at the second storage endpoint comprising the replication functionality.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2022Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Atul Ramesh Pandit, Vijay M. Deshmukh, Michael Lee Federwisch, Ling Zheng, Kiyoshi James Komatsu, Rachita Kothiyal

Publication number: 20220214814Abstract: To replicate a source LUN to a different storage system platform, a first storage system transmits a request to replicate a LUN along with attributes for the LUN to a second storage system. The second storage system maps the attributes to attributes used and understood by the platform of the second storage system. The second storage system then creates a destination LUN based on the mapped attributes. Since the destination LUN is created with similar attributes as the source LUN, the destination LUN can store the replicated data of the source LUN while still being accessed and recognized as a LUN by the second storage system. The second storage system also stores any proprietary attributes received from the first storage system so that the proprietary attributes can be supplied to the first storage system to recover the source LUN after a data loss event.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2022Publication date: July 7, 2022Inventors: Ravindra Kuramkote, Kiyoshi James Komatsu, Ling Na Zheng, Rachita Kothiyal, Michael Lee Federwisch, Vijay Mohan Deshmukh

Publication number: 20210117276Abstract: A computer-implemented method comprising: storing a plurality of existing snapshots in a protection store, wherein the particular existing snapshot is represented by a particular metadata object; removing data objects that belong to the particular existing snapshot from the protection store by: obtaining protection-store-specific hash values from the particular metadata object; based on the protection-store-specific hash values obtained from the particular metadata object, determining whether data objects that correspond to the protection-store-specific hash values obtained from the particular metadata object are being used by any other existing snapshots of the plurality of existing snapshots; in response to determining that a particular data object that corresponds to a particular protection-store-specific hash value from the particular metadata object is not used by any other existing snapshots of the plurality of existing snapshots, deleting the data object associated with the particular protection-store-Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2019Publication date: April 22, 2021Inventor: Michael Lee Federwisch

Publication number: 20210117274Abstract: A computer-implemented method comprising: maintaining a metadata object for a snapshot that is being loaded into a particular protection store in a destination data storage system, wherein the metadata object comprises a sequence of protection-store-specific hash values, wherein each protection-store-specific hash value of the sequence of protection-store-specific hash values corresponds to a respective data object that belongs to the snapshot; when all data objects that belong to the snapshot are in the particular protection store, storing the metadata object for the snapshot in the particular protection store.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2019Publication date: April 22, 2021Inventor: Michael Lee Federwisch
