  • Patent number: 9140041
Abstract: A compression latch comprising a housing, a handle, and a latch member is provided. The housing has an inboard and an outboard side, and defines a plane substantially parallel to a closure plane. The handle is pivotably connected to the housing at a handle pivot point having a longitudinal axis substantially parallel to the plane, and the latch member is pivotably connected to the housing through a latch member pivot point, which is remote and inboard from the handle pivot point and also has a longitudinal axis substantially parallel to that of the handle pivot point. The latch member is pivotable about the latch member pivot point between an open and a closed position. The handle is connected to the latch member by a first linkage so the latch member is moveable between the open and closed positions by angular movement of the handle about the handle pivot point.

  • Publication number: 20140333074
Abstract: A compression latch for a closure, the latch including a housing, a latch member and an input shaft configured to drive the latch. The latch member is pivotably connected to the housing at a latch member pivot point. The latch member includes a latch arm and a striker. The latch arm first end is connected to the input shaft at the latch member pivot point, such that the latch member is pivotable about the latch member pivot point between an open position and a closed position upon operation of the input shaft. The striker is pivotably connected to the latch arm second end at a first striker pivot point. The latch arm is configured to move the striker with respect to the housing in a first arc and the linkage is configured to pivot the striker with respect to the housing about the latch arm in a second arc.

  • Publication number: 20130328328
Abstract: A compression latch for a closure comprising a latch mount having an inboard side and an outboard side and a latch member having a first end and a second end; and a drive shaft configured to drive the compression latch. The shaft is actuated remotely. The drive shaft is pivotably connected to the mount at a first link pivot point, the first link pivot point having a first longitudinal axis. The latch member first end is pivotably connected to the mount at a latch member pivot point remote from the first link pivot point and inboard thereof, the latch member pivot point having a second longitudinal axis substantially parallel to the first longitudinal axis. The latch member is pivotable about the latch member pivot point between an open position and a closed position. The latch member is connected to the drive shaft by a linkage such that the latch member is moveable between said open position and said closed position by rotation of the drive shaft. The latch member comprises a striker at its second end.

  • Publication number: 20060186706
Abstract: Control mechanisms and methods of use include the use of active materials as a blocking element. The control mechanisms generally include a tactile control in operative communication with an electrical circuit, wherein actuation of the tactile control closes the electrical circuit to activate a function. The blocking element includes an active material that is intermediate to the electrical circuit and the tactile control. The active material is adapted to change at least one attribute such as a modulus property in response to an activation signal. The change in the at least one attribute selectively changes a force level for actuating the tactile control.

  • Publication number: 20050202194
Abstract: A method comprises applying a thermal activation signal to a conduit comprising a shape memory polymer, causing a change in at least one property of the shape memory polymer, and regulating fluid flow through the conduit by the change in the at least one property of the shape memory polymer. A conduit comprises a shape memory polymer in an amount effective to regulate fluid flow through the conduit by a change in at least one property of the shape memory polymer caused by application of a thermal activation signal. The conduits and methods disclosed herein may find use as drinking utensils, respirator tubes, pump intake tubes, motor vehicle cooling system bypass hoses, motor vehicle engine oil filter bypass hoses, or motor vehicle powertrain fluid circulation hoses.
