  • Patent number: 7765437
Abstract: A plurality of data storage devices are arranged to form a multi-device array space, and a controller controls access to the array space. The controller is configured to index sets of operational performance data from the plurality of data storage devices into a unified data log. The controller further detects a failure trend of one or more data storage devices by analyzing at least one of a vertical block of data and a horizontal block of data in the unified data log. The vertical data block of data is associated with one of the data storage devices at a plurality of indices. The horizontal block of data is associated with a plurality of the data storage devices at an index.

  • Publication number: 20090077107
Abstract: Methods and systems for managing and analyzing multi-dimensional data are provided. Example embodiments provide a Meta-Object Data Management System “MODMS,” which enables users to arrange and to rearrange the hierarchical relationships of the data on an ad-hoc basis and allows the data to be analyzed using any set of attributes (dimensions) while the system is running. The MODMS represents heterogeneous data in a normalized (standardized) fashion using an object type management system that allows the arbitrary coercion of one type of object into another different type of object and automatically resolves attribute dependencies. In one embodiment, the MODMS comprises an object type management subsystem; a meta-object instantiation subsystem; one or more data repositories that hold, for example, the data used to populate objects and object type definitions; and an input/output interface.

  • Publication number: 20090006741
Abstract: A data storage system and associated method are provided wherein a policy engine continuously collects qualitative information about a network load to the data storage system in order to dynamically characterize the load and continuously correlates the load characterization to the content of a command queue of transfer requests for writeback commands and host read commands, selectively limiting the content with respect to writeback commands to only those transfer requests for writeback data that are selected on a physical zone basis of a plurality of predefined physical zones of a storage media.

  • Publication number: 20090006739
Abstract: As apparatus and associated method for a dual active-active array storage system with a first controller with top level control of a first memory space and a second controller with top level control of a second memory space different than the first memory space. A seek manager residing in only one of the controllers defines individual command profiles derived from a combined list of data transfer requests from both controllers. A policy engine continuously collects qualitative information about a network load to both controllers to dynamically characterize the load, and governs the seek manager to continuously correlate each command profile in relation to the load characterization.

  • Publication number: 20080034669
Abstract: A coated super-hard abrasive comprises a core of super-hard abrasive material, which is typically diamond or cBN based, an inner layer of a metal carbide, nitride, boride, boronitride or carbonitride chemically bonded to an outer surface of the super-hard abrasive material and one or more outer layers of a metal carbide, nitride, boride or carbonitride physically deposited on the inner layer. In the case of a single outer layer, the single outer layer has a composition gradient extending through its thickness, and in the case of more than one outer layer, the composition of each layer is different to provide a gradient of material through the various layers. In the case of several outer layers, each layer may also include a composition gradient.

  • Patent number: 7281750
Abstract: A motorcycle comprises a chassis, a windshield attached to the chassis, and a speed sensor operative to determine instantaneous speeds of the motorcycle as the motorcycle travels. In addition, the motorcycle further comprises a position table and a windshield positioning device. The position table associates windshield positions in relation to the chassis with respective speeds of the motorcycle. The windshield positioning device is operative to move the windshield to the windshield positions associated in the position table with the instantaneous speeds of the motorcycle determined by the speed sensor.

  • Patent number: 7153920
Abstract: This invention is based upon the discovery that rubbery polymers having a high vinyl content and a low degree of branching can be synthesized with an initiator system that is comprised of (a) a lithium initiator selected from the group consisting of allylic lithium compounds and benzylic lithium compounds, (b) a Group I metal alkoxide, and (c) a polar modifier; wherein the molar ratio of the Group I metal alkoxide to the polar modifier is within the range of about 0.1:1 to about 10:1; and wherein the molar ratio of the Group I metal alkoxide to the lithium initiator is within the range of about 0.01:1 to about 20:1. These high vinyl polymers offer reduced levels of hysteresis and better functionalization efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20060193576
Abstract: A method and apparatus for loading a ribbon cable into a protective jacket. A leader with a first end and a second end is enclosed in the jacket. The second end of the leader is then attached to the cable, while the first end of the leader is used for pulling the leader through the jacket. The first end of the leader is then pulled through the jacket until a parallel wire section of the cable is exposed. The exposed wires are then cut to length resulting in the ribbon cable being loaded into the protective jacket and ready for installation.
