Publication number: 20240108433Abstract: Devices and methods for improved access to a surgical site are the basis of the present disclosure. The improved access can be provided by way of a displacement wrap that can be used to engage tissue that impedes access to the surgical site. The displacement wrap, which can be a textile, can be wrapped around the tissue and subsequently manipulated to move the wrap, and thus the tissue, out of the way to improve access. The displacement wrap includes locking features formed in it that allow for selective tensioning of the tissue being engaged and moved. The locking features can engage another portion of the wrap and/or can be engaged by another component associated with the wrap, such as a locking suture. Methods of using the wrap in various surgical procedures that would benefit from moving tissue to improve surgical site access are also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2023Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: Stephen J. Publication number: 20240094429Abstract: A ranging workflow to interpret the ultradeep harmonic anisotropic attenuation (UHAA) measurements and estimate the distance and orientation of the existing cased well from the well being drilled is presented herein. The ranging workflow applies to scenarios in which the wells are near parallel to each other and performs reasonably well in boreholes which are more or less perpendicular to the formation layers. The ranging workflow generally includes deploying a deep directional resistivity (DDR) tool into a new wellbore; collecting UHAA data via the DDR tool; determining resistivity values based at least in part on the UHAA data; and determining a distance of the DDR tool from a casing of an existing wellbore proximate the new wellbore based at least in part on the resistivity values and a UHAA response table for the DDR tool.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Inventors: Yong-Hua Chen, Saad Omar, Michael Thiel, Lin Liang

Publication number: 20240091640Abstract: An approach is provided for a gaming overlay application to provide automatic in-game subtitles and/or closed captions for video game applications. The overlay application accesses an audio stream and a video stream generated by an executing game application. The overlay application processes the audio stream through a text conversion engine to generate at least one subtitle. The overlay application determines a display position to associate with the at least one subtitle. The overlay application generates a subtitle overlay comprising the at least one subtitle located at the associated display position. The overlay application causes a portion of the video stream to be displayed with the subtitle overlay.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Inventors: Wei Liang, Ilia Blank, Patrick Fok, Le Zhang, Michael Schmit

Patent number: 7657782Abstract: A mechanism is provided for creating and managing multiple virtualized remote mirroring session consistency groups. The mechanism virtualizes a single physical session of a remote mirroring storage system so that a user is able to create and manage multiple virtual sessions as if they were storage volumes belonging to different physical sessions. With the mechanism of the illustrative embodiments, failover and failback operations may be performed with regard to a first set of virtual sessions while other virtual sessions continue uninterrupted. Thus, a user is provided with the flexibility to temporarily move, through a selective failover operation, selected application production workloads from production sites to recovery sites while other applications can run continuously at the production site. Later, those failed-over applications may failback to the production site and rejoin the physical session.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2006Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Sanjoy Das, Sathees Babu Kodi, Michael Liang Tan

Publication number: 20070264505Abstract: The present invention provides articles resistant to the adsorption of proteins, cells and bacteria. The articles can either have a chemical chain bonded thereon where the chemical chain can comprise a terminal group free of a hydrogen bond donor or where a hydrogen bond donor is sufficiently buried such that an exposed surface of the article including the chemical chain is free of a hydrogen bond donor. The chemical chain, or plurality of chemical chains, can comprise a monolayer such as a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) which can be homogeneous (one type of SAM) or mixed, i.e. or more different types of SAMs. Other more specific examples of chemical chains are provided. The plurality of chemical chains can comprise a polymer such as a polyamine. In many aspects, the plurality of chemical chains is sufficiently free of cross-linking or branching. The present invention also provides an article capable of specific binding of a desired biomolecule while preventing non-specific binding of biomolecules.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 9, 2007Publication date: November 15, 2007Applicant: President and Fellows of Harvard CollegeInventors: Robert Chapman, Emanuele Ostuni, Michael Liang, Lin Yan, George Whitesides
