  • Patent number: 7657782
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for creating and managing multiple virtualized remote mirroring session consistency groups. The mechanism virtualizes a single physical session of a remote mirroring storage system so that a user is able to create and manage multiple virtual sessions as if they were storage volumes belonging to different physical sessions. With the mechanism of the illustrative embodiments, failover and failback operations may be performed with regard to a first set of virtual sessions while other virtual sessions continue uninterrupted. Thus, a user is provided with the flexibility to temporarily move, through a selective failover operation, selected application production workloads from production sites to recovery sites while other applications can run continuously at the production site. Later, those failed-over applications may failback to the production site and rejoin the physical session.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 8, 2006
Date of Patent: February 2, 2010
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation

  • Publication number: 20070264505
Abstract: The present invention provides articles resistant to the adsorption of proteins, cells and bacteria. The articles can either have a chemical chain bonded thereon where the chemical chain can comprise a terminal group free of a hydrogen bond donor or where a hydrogen bond donor is sufficiently buried such that an exposed surface of the article including the chemical chain is free of a hydrogen bond donor. The chemical chain, or plurality of chemical chains, can comprise a monolayer such as a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) which can be homogeneous (one type of SAM) or mixed, i.e. or more different types of SAMs. Other more specific examples of chemical chains are provided. The plurality of chemical chains can comprise a polymer such as a polyamine. In many aspects, the plurality of chemical chains is sufficiently free of cross-linking or branching. The present invention also provides an article capable of specific binding of a desired biomolecule while preventing non-specific binding of biomolecules.

  • Publication number: 20050163648
Abstract: A sterilizing method and apparatus for destroying live microorganisms including viruses in fluent material, such as air and water, in large volume. As a preferred embodiment of this invention, air is drawn, from the inlet 1, through the inlet filter unit 3 and into the circuitous sterilizing chamber 10 that is irradiated by numbers of UV lamp tubes 15, and through the discharging filter unit 13 and then out through outlet 11. A sample window 12 is built in for quality supervision. Visual inspection windows 5 and UV sensors 6 are provided for easy supervision and auto-control. The sterilizing chamber 10 also includes flow resistant reducing feature 7 and internal reflecting surfaces 9.

  • Publication number: 20040158605
Abstract: A network domain includes a plurality of agents and a domain server, the domain server operable for automatically transmitting messages to the agents to reset the agents upon the occurrence of a critical event. Upon receipt of a restart command, each agent terminates executing processes and then restarts processes.
