  • Publication number: 20170102031
Abstract: Hydrodynamic bearings exploit the properties of pumping action in a fluid to support a bearing load. Conventionally, the pumping action is provided by grooved surfaces in a bearing surface of the bearing. The provision of grooves leads to functional and practical problems, though. The action of grooves on a lubrication material leads inevitably to shear stress being exerted in the fluid. This has a detrimental effect on the load performance of a hydrodynamic bearing. In practical terms, the accurate manufacture of grooves is onerous. This application discusses a way of producing a hydrodynamic bearing using a portion of a bearing surface with an interleaved pattern of materials, wherein the materials have alternate high and low (or zero) fluid slip characteristics. The varying fluid slip characteristic of the surface induces a pumping effect analogous to that provided by a grooved surface.

  • Patent number: 9014337
Abstract: The invention relates to a rotary-anode X-ray tube which includes a sleeve bearing having an axial bearing section and a radial bearing section. Furthermore, radial sealing sections (601, 602) are provided in an outer bearing member (605, 607, 608) which have no functional relation to the axial bearing surfaces (2012) of the axial bearing section. Thus, additional sealing principles like gaskets or sealing edges can be used although this may result in degradation of surface parallelism.

  • Patent number: 8582723
Abstract: In a rotatable anode (4) of an X-ray tube, a heat transfer between the rotating disc of the anode (4a) and the second bearing element (11) is achieved by providing a contact material (14) within a gap (16a, b) between the anode disc (4a) and the second bearing element (11). Contact elements (15) protrude from the second bearing element (11) into the contact material (14), thus allowing a heat transfer from anode disc (4a) to second bearing element (11) via contact material (14) and contact element (15).

  • Patent number: 7654740
Abstract: X-ray tube and method for determination of focal spot properties The invention relates to an x-ray tube (1) comprising at least one cathode (3) which emits electrons accelerated towards a rotating anode (5) such that the focal spot (27) is formed on a surface (9) of the anode (5). A structure (15), in particular slits or pits (13), is disposed on the surface (9) of the anode (5). The x-ray tube (1) comprises a detector (7) for detecting a detection signal which changes, if the structure (15) on the rotating anode (5) passes the focal spot. The x-ray tube (1) further comprises determination means (6) for determining properties of the focal spot from changes of the detection signal. Thus, properties of the focal spot can be determined from changes of the detection signal during operation of the x-ray tube (1).
