  • Patent number: 5055410
Abstract: A method and diagnostic test unit for the determination of one or more non-triglycerides in an oil using an oil-miscible test solution prepared from an oil-miscible vehicle of monoglycerides, diglycerides or mixtures thereof and an indicator deliverable in admixture with the vehicle for assaying the non-triglycerides, wherein the indicator in combination with the non-triglycerides forms a reaction product characteristic of the amount of the non-triglycerides, and the indicator and vehicle are present in quantities and at a pH effective to provide detectable quantities of reaction product. The reaction product development is compared to a known standard to determine the presence or amount of the non-triglycerides in the oil.

  • Patent number: 4731332
Abstract: A composition and test kit for determining the amount of polar substances in fat are disclosd by employing a test solution which is immiscible with the fat in question, and which provides a polychromatic visible or fluorescent color change in the test solution in response to characteristic amounts of polar substances in the fat. The visible or fluorescent color change can be used to compare to a known standard to determine the amount of polar substances in the fat.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 31, 1985
Date of Patent: March 15, 1988
    Assignee: Oil Process Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Michael M. Blumenthal, Jerry R. Stockler
  • Patent number: 4349353
Abstract: A method and composition for a determination of alkaline materials such as soap in fat are disclosed. In the disclosed method, a predetermined amount of a test solution containing a solvent and a dye is mixed with fat; the fat and test solution are allowed to separate into two phases; and the color developed in one of the phases is compared with a known standard to determine the amount of alkaline materials in the fat. A test solution and test kit for performing the method are also disclosed.
