  • Patent number: 9689846
Abstract: A device for determining properties of a medium, comprising a carrier which can be brought in contact with the medium; at least one transmitter arranged on the carrier for exciting acoustic waves in the carrier; at least one receiver arranged on the carrier for receiving acoustic waves which originate from waves excited in the carrier by means of the transmitter; and first and second material regions arranged on the carrier, wherein the second material region absorbs sound waves with the frequency of the acoustic waves excited in the carrier more strongly than the first material region. The carrier has a first surface with which it is to be brought in con-tact with the medium and a second surface which faces away from the first surface, wherein the transmitter as well as the first and the second material region are arranged on the second surface.

  • Patent number: 9121816
Abstract: An apparatus determines the properties of a medium in the form of a fluid or soft material. An acoustic waveguide has two opposing guide elements delimiting an interior space to be filled with a medium. The guide elements, upon filling the interior space with a medium, form an interface with the medium with an inner surface. A transmitter generates acoustic surface waves in the waveguide, which are received by a receiver. The waveguide can be coupled with an evaluation unit for determining physical properties of the medium based on a signal generated by the receiver. A housing accommodates the guide elements, transmitter and receiver. On the respective inner surface, at least a part of the acoustic surface waves can be converted into volumetric sound waves of the medium and at least a part of the volumetric sound waves can be converted into acoustic surface waves of the waveguide.

  • Patent number: 8833170
Abstract: An apparatus for determining a distance includes a converter element that generates n acoustic surface wave, a surface that feeds over at least part of the acoustic surface wave to a surface having a reflection point, and a processor that determines a distance between the apparatus and the reflection point from the propagation time of the acoustic surface wave. The converter element registers the acoustic surface wave reflected at the reflection point.

  • Publication number: 20140083194
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for determining properties of a medium, having a carrier (2) which can be brought into contact with the medium (3); at least one transmitter (4), arranged on the carrier (2), for exciting acoustic waves (A) in the carrier (2); at least one receiver (5), arranged on the carrier (2), for receiving acoustic waves (A, A?) which originate from waves (A) excited in the carrier (2) by means of the transmitter (4); a first material region (61) arranged on the carrier (4); and a second material region (62) arranged on the carrier (4), wherein the name of the second material region (62) is such that it absorbs sound waves at the frequency of the acoustic waves (A) excited in the carrier (2) more strongly than the first material region (61). The invention also relates to a method for producing such a device.

  • Patent number: 6247134
Abstract: A method and system for power savings within a pipelined design by performing intelligent stage gating. The present invention recognizes that not every operand applied to the input of a pipeline requires a recomputation in the different pipeline stages. Circuitry is used to generate a signal, C, indicating that this condition holds. C is then used to gate the register bank at the input of the first pipeline stage thereby potentially saving power in the register bank. Moreover, C can also be stored in a register, the output of which: a) gates the register bank of the second stage; and b) connects to another register to store signal C to be used in the third stage. Power savings is provided by not clocking the register circuit of the stage, and in some instances, power is saved within the stage's associated combinational logic. In one embodiment, a register (to store C) is added in each stage of a pipeline to use C as a gating signal in the subsequent stage.
