    Abstract: Alkaline battery cells comprising an anode, a cathode, a separator between the anode and the cathode, and an electrolyte are provided with an n-type metal oxide additive that improves electrochemical performance. The n-type metal oxide additive is either a doped metal oxide comprising a metal oxide modified by incorporation of a dopant, or a reduced metal oxide.
