Publication number: 20170032648Abstract: A readily scalable, web-based system for monitoring the status of a plurality of patients by a plurality of caregivers includes a patient monitoring center that continuously aggregates patient data using patient monitoring devices, such as rounds tags and wheelchair sensors. The monitoring center compiles and stores a modifiable table that links each patient with a selection of caregivers and monitoring devices. The monitoring center additionally links certain caregivers with web-enabled compute devices, such as mobile telephones. Accordingly, upon detecting imminent risk of danger to a patient, such as detecting initiation of patient egress from a wheelchair, the monitoring center transmits a user-intuitive, real-time alert directly to the caregivers responsible for the well-being of the patient through their designated compute devices. In this manner, the risk of significant injury to the patient can be prevented.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2016Publication date: February 2, 2017Inventors: Michael McClain, Hans Mills, Leon Deligiannidis, Thomas Goulding

Patent number: 9290865Abstract: A three-dimensional corner lap joint preform and a method of forming a three-dimensional corner lap joint preform including a woven flange with one or more legs that extend from the flange. The legs may include one or more independently woven portions which allow formation of a corner without darting the leg or adding additional reinforcement. The independently woven portions may include warp fibers which are not woven into the preform. The unwoven area allows removal of a portion of the leg prior to formation of the corner, allowing the portions of the leg to overlap and form a lap joint.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2012Date of Patent: March 22, 2016Assignee: Albany Engineered Composites, Inc.Inventors: Michael McClain, Jonathan Goering

Patent number: 8663776Abstract: A corner fitting preform and a method of forming a corner fitting preform including steps integrally weaving a base or parent material with one or more flanges or legs that extend from the base is disclosed. The flat woven preform includes specially engineered areas within the legs or flanges that have continuous warp yarns which are not woven. The unwoven areas provide a hinge which allows the flanges of the preform to fold around a corner. After folding, the excess unwoven warp yarns are pulled back through the woven portion of the legs or flanges to produce a preform with continuous warp yarn reinforcement around the corner.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2011Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Albany Engineered CompositesInventors: Jonathan Goering, Michael McClain

Patent number: 8389424Abstract: A reinforcement for a darted three-dimensional Pi or T-shaped preform, a method of making thereof and a composite structure including the reinforcement is disclosed. The reinforcement is a steered fabric having a width, a length, a first face surface and a second face surface separated by a thickness. The first face surface of the steered fabric is affixed to a darted component of the preform. The steered fabric reinforcement can be a single layer or multilayer fabric, which can be woven using a programmable take up system.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2009Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: Albany Engineered Composites, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Goering, Michael McClain

Patent number: 8383342Abstract: Disclosed are compositions, products, methods and systems for monitoring ecosystems, such as bodies of water, for a parameter of the ecosystems, such as the presence or absence of mercury. In one embodiment, the product may include a plurality of oligonucleotides immobilized at known locations on a substrate as an array, such that each location on the array is an oligonucleotide having a sequence derived from a single, predetermined operational taxonomic unit (OTU) and wherein at least one sequence on the array is associated with the presence or absence of mercury. The sequences immobilized on the array may be from known, or unknown organisms. Also disclosed are methods for identifying and isolating bioindicators diagnostic of ecosystem parameters, such as whether mercury is present. The compositions, products, methods and systems of the invention may be used for rapid, and continual monitoring of ecosystems for parameters of interest, such as the presence or absence of mercury.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2011Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: The University of North Carolina at GreensboroInventors: Parke A. Rublee, Vincent C. Henrich, III, Michael McClain Marshall
