Abstract: A method for determining listener-specific head-related transfer functions is described. The method comprising the steps of: A) providing a visual representation of the head and each of the auricles, wherein for each auricle the visual representation includes visual information of the overall shape of the auricle and of anatomical components of the auricle; B) calculating, using said visual representation, three-dimensional polygon meshes, including a head mesh and independent auricle meshes, which respectively model the shapes of the head and auricles, wherein the auricle meshes (60) preferably include shape information of auricle components such as the entry (65) of the ear canal, the concha (66), the fossa (63), and the backside of the auricle (69); C) merging the polygon meshes to a three-dimensional combined mesh, in which the auricle meshes are located at proper locations with respect to the head mesh; D) calculating HRTFs based on the combined mesh.
