Abstract: In a first aspect, a safety pen needle assembly is provided herein which includes a hub and a needle fixed to the hub which extends distally from the hub so as to define an injection length. A first shield is slidable relative to the hub from a first state, in which the shield covers at least a substantial portion of the injection length of the needle, to a second state, in which at least a substantial portion of the injection length of the needle is exposed; and, a second shield is slidable from a first position, in which the shield covers the proximal end of the needle, to a second position, in which the proximal end of the needle is exposed. A biasing element is disposed between the first and second shields configured to simultaneously urge the first shield distally and the second shield proximally.
