    Abstract: A surgical clip applier and methods for applying surgical clips to a vessel, duct, shunt, etc., during a surgical procedure are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a surgical clip applier is provided having a housing with a trigger movably coupled thereto and a shaft extending therefrom with opposed jaws formed on a distal end thereof. The trigger is adapted to advance a clip to position the clip between the jaws, and to move the jaws from an open position to a closed position to crimp the clip positioned therebetween. The surgical clip applier can include a variety of features to facilitate use of the device, including features to prevent misalignment of the jaws and clip therebetween, features to protect the jaws, and features to ensure proper closure of the jaws and clip therebetween.

    Abstract: An automated system for detecting risky entity behavior using an efficient frequent behavior-sorted list is disclosed. From these lists, fingerprints and distance measures can be constructed to enable comparison to known risky entities. The lists also facilitate efficient linking of entities to each other, such that risk information propagates through entity associations. These behavior sorted lists, in combination with other profiling techniques, which efficiently summarize information about the entity within a data store, can be used to create threat scores. These threat scores may be applied within the context of anti-money laundering (AML) and retail banking fraud detection systems. A particular instantiation of these scores elaborated here is the AML Threat Score, which is trained to identify behavior for a banking customer that is suspicious and indicates high likelihood of money laundering activity.

    Abstract: A device for amplifying and detecting nucleic acids in a biological sample has a sample port for receiving a biological sample, a solid-state membrane, a sample conduit, a lysis station, a wash station, an elution station, a waste chamber, and a reaction chamber. The sample port, lysis station and sample conduit are configured to mix a sample and lysis agent to form a sample-lysis mixture, pass the mixture across the solid-state membrane to capture nucleic acids in the sample therein, and receive the remainder of the mixture in the waste chamber. The wash station directs a wash solution across the solid-state membrane and into the waste chamber to purify nucleic acids captured in the membrane. The elution station directs an eluent across the membrane, elutes captured nucleic acids from the membrane, and passes the captured nucleic acids into the reaction chamber for amplifying and detecting the captured nucleic acids.

A drilling-and-shorting assembly can create a short circuit in a field-end of the cable, and a continuity tester can test the integrity of the short-circuit. The field end of the cable can then be ejected from the system, and an end-cap-cradle assembly can position an end cap on a live end of an electrical cable and test its installation.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a test engine intended to evaluate the correctness and measure the performance effects of a binary transformation technique. The disclosed system takes source code as input and compiler information/flags as input. The transformation-under-test is applied to the compiler, creating a transformed compiler. A random test case generator residing within the test engine for injecting illegal code structures to modify the project source code, build flags, or compiler's operating environment, thereby creating an unlimited number of input test cases for the compiler. The test engine compiles the source code utilizing both the raw and transformed compilers and compares the results. For example, the test engine renders a pass/fail judgement on the binary transformation based on a metric of near equivalence between the results of the raw compiler and transformed compiler. By using one or more bitmasks, the evaluation process factors in differences attributed to compiler run-time generated artifacts.

    Abstract: A staple cartridge for use with a stapling device that has an actuator that is selectively actuatable in an axial direction and an anvil portion that is selectively movable between open and closed positions is disclosed. Various embodiments of the present invention include a cartridge body that movably supports first and second staple drivers. The staple drivers each support a staple thereon and serve to drive the staples into forming contact with the anvil upon actuation by the actuator. The various embodiments of the present invention enable the final formed heights of the staples to be varied so as to apply various clamping forces and pressures to soft tissue captured within the staples. In at least one embodiment, the staples can include crowns formed thereon which can be utilized to adjust or control the clamping force and/or pressure applied by the staples.

    Abstract: Die handling systems and methods of use for preparing or processing dies from multiple types of pre-expanded wafer materials. The die handling systems are configured in a modular fashion, allowing for concurrent processes to expand the wafers, process the wafers, extract the dies, and inspect the extracted dies without forcing one of the processes of the system to remain idle. Embodiments of the wafer handler module include a mechanism, such as an expander capable of stretching or expanding wafers having one or more different sizes to a pre-expanded state without interrupting the die handler. The pre-expanded wafers are stored as a proprietary cartridge and delivered to the die handler, where a pick head of the die handler removes each die of the pre-expanded wafer and delivers the extracted dies to subsequent machinery, such as a pick and place machine, for further processing.

    Abstract: An automatic opening and closing device for a container comprises a closure flap within the container and a pivot arm with a weighted portion. When the container is in a first position, the centre of mass of the weighted portion is offset horizontally and vertically from the pivot point of the pivot arm and acts to bias the closure flap to close an opening in the container. When the container is rotated in a first direction to a second position, the weighted portion causes the pivot arm and closure flap to rotate relative to the container in a second direction opposite to the first direction, to bias the closure flap away from the opening. In the first position, the weighted portion is offset vertically by a greater distance than it is offset horizontally. A locking mechanism may also be provided, which is operable to the user to keep the container closed even when tilted.
