  • Patent number: 7185409
Abstract: A tool installs barb emitters in irrigation tubing. The tool has a cradle which receives irrigation tubing and a punch mounted opposite the cradle. The punch has a first cylinder and a second cylinder telescopically received within the first cylinder. The first cylinder has a cap at the upper end and an annular ring extending inwardly from to partially occlude the lower end. The second cylinder includes a second cap at the upper end which slidably engages the first cylinder and is resiliently urged by a spring against the annular ring. The cap has a punch holder extending downwardly therefrom. A needle has a sharp tip extending downwardly from the punch holder through the second cap to a point within the second cylinder when the spring is fully extended and beyond the second cylinder when the spring is fully compressed. One of the jaws has a knife blade extending from the other end thereof opposite. The of the jaws defines a semi-circular concave anvil at the other end.

  • Publication number: 20060274797
Abstract: A relatively simple and inexpensive method to increase the operational lifetime of semiconductor laser diode elements and light emitting diodes (LEDs) is disclosed. The semiconductor laser diode element is placed in contact with a non-electrically conductive, chemically inert liquid. Preferably the liquid is a perfluorinated liquid. This results in a dramatically increased operational lifetime for the semiconductor laser diode element by preventing damaging heat build up to vulnerable areas of the laser diode element, such as the p-n junction. This method can work with the liquid being either static or flowing. The disclosed method can be used when the semiconductor laser diode element is used either as a laser itself or when it is used to optically pump another lasing element. The liquid can also be in contact with the lasing element, collimating lens, sub-mounts, or thermoelectric coolers in a lasing assembly.

  • Publication number: 20060101077
Abstract: An information retrieval system allows a user to navigate through a plurality of informational items for a desired informational item, and upon selection of an information item, presents other informational items related to the selected informational item. The information retrieval system in accordance with principles of the present invention maintains a database that defines a relational association between a plurality of informational items in the system. The relational association is based on historical navigational behavior of users in the information retrieval system, and includes a relationship type, which is based on the characteristics similarities between the informational items, and relationship strength, which is based on the historical frequency of any related informational items being selected by a user within the same information retrieval session.
