  • Patent number: 5449245
Abstract: A paving block (10) has substantially parallel top and bottom surfaces, is based upon hexagonal geometry and has a central portion (10a) which is a substantially equilateral triangle and three portions (10b) (herein called apex portions) Each apex portion is located in the region which would otherwise be the location of a respective apex of the triangle. Each apex portion has a first pair of walls (17) each of which in part defines a boundary of one of three recesses in the block and a third wall (17c) which defines an outer boundary of the respective apex portion. The third wall is shaped to secure an interfit between a recess of one block and an apex portion of an adjacent similar block, the interfit being incomplete and arranged to define one of a plurality of water run-away holes (20) in an array of laid blocks.

  • Patent number: 5311720
Abstract: Building or like parts can be attached to a support structure, such as the wall of a building, by using an elongate attachment member 10 or 40. Coping or capping stones 32 or 50 may be similarly attached to the top of a wall. The attachment member has to opposed outwardly-extending resilient latch portions, 18a, 18b, 48a, 48b and, in a region away from the latch portions, an outwardly-extending anchor portion, or a pair of anchor portions.

  • Patent number: 5277514
Abstract: A paving block is made up, as seen in plan, of two connected portions (10, 12) one portion (10) comprising four connected substantially identical quadrants (14-17) and the other portion (12) having an inside-out pillow shape defined substantially by four arcuate surfaces. The curvature of each surface is substantially the same as that of the curved boundary of any one of the quadrants (14-17). Such a block may have various proportions, and may be made to various dimensions. However it is preferred for the blocks to be of such a size and weight that one can readily be held in one hand. This simplifies and makes less expensive the process of laying the blocks. Such blocks when laid have improved structural stability.

  • Patent number: 4936712
Abstract: A retaining wall system has a number of units placed on top of the other. The units are constructed to be capable of interengaging one another in a plurality of selected positions so that the angle of the face of the resulting wall to the vertical can be different at different heights. Preferably the upper surface of each unit is substantially convex and the lower surface of each unit is a substantially complementary concave configuration. The blocks engage complementarily in more than one possible relative position and are shaped to resist being displaced therefrom by lateral forces.

  • Patent number: 4711599
Abstract: A paving block has six sides, and a top (10) and a bottom surface (12). Two of the side surfaces (14, 16) are substantially parallel and substantially twice as long as each of the other four side surfaces (18, 20, 22, 24), two surfaces (18, 20) of the said other four side surfaces each making an angle of substantially 120.degree. with one end of each of the longer side surfaces (14, 16) and each other side surface (22, 24) making an angle of substantially 60.degree. with the other end of each of the longer side surfaces (14, 16). In other words, a block according to the invention as seen in plan is of `chevron` shape a shape that could also be termed a squat `V` shape. This is a simple, easily manufactured block, which permits numerous different arrangements to be laid.
