  • Patent number: 8033573
Abstract: A rollover protection system for motor vehicles with a roll bar, which can be moved by a drive unit from a position of rest to a protection position, is secured in the protection position by a locking device and prevented from retracting, and is fixed in the position of rest by a holding device, wherein the holding device has a movably arranged catch element which can be disengaged abruptly by a pyrotechnic actuator. For such cases in which the catch element can move beyond the release point and there is a danger of a rebounding, because a path-limiting stop is present, a structural part is provided that prevents a return movement of the catch element into the holding position.

For such cases in which the catch element can move beyond the release point and there is a danger of a rebounding, because a path-limiting stop is present, the invention calls for providing a structural part that prevents a return movement of the catch element into the holding position. This structural part can be a detent spring arranged in the travel path of the catch element, being fastened to the roll bar and preventing the catch element from swiveling back after striking a path-limiting wall of the roll bar.

  • Publication number: 20090095555
Abstract: The invention is based on a known rollover protection system for motor vehicles having a holder affixed to the vehicle, a rollover body, a drive for deploying rollover body from a resting position to a protective position, a device for holding rollover body in the resting position, a sensor-controlled actuator for triggering holding device and a blocking bolt arrangement with two locking bolts under spring tension that engage in locking holes of rollover body when rollover body is deployed in the protective position. It is proposed that blocking bolt arrangement has a housing affixed to the vehicle and open at the end, in which locking bolts are positioned at the end with a single pressure spring positioned in between, by means of which locking bolts can be driven into locking holes.

  • Patent number: 7458608
Abstract: Vehicle rollover protection system with a roll bar, whose top piece is rounded in a U-shape. Such top pieces are typically tubular and are made from pipe bending parts. In order to achieve a three-dimensional contour of the top piece with irregular cross section of its profile, the invention calls for at least the tubular top piece consisting of at least two axially divided partially tubular shells of sheet metal, joined to each other and having different geometrical shapes according to a nominal contour.

  • Patent number: 6902190
Abstract: Such systems typically have an extendable rollover bar, which in its extended position is locked against being pushed back in by a locking pawl that is in operative locking engagement with a toothed segment. To make it possible by simple means to use both hands to return the rollover bar to its retracted position when required, the invention provides a reversing lever, which can be manually brought to a self-holding position above dead center while unlocking the locking pawl before the rollover bar is pushed in. This self-holding position can be automatically canceled again just before the rollover bar reaches its standby position.

  • Patent number: 6817628
Abstract: This type of rollover protection system typically comprises a roll bar body that is either firmly anchored to the vehicle, or is displaceably guided in a guide element that is fixed to the vehicle, in conjunction with a locking device that serves as a retraction blocking mechanism to lock the deployed roll bar body against any unintended retraction. To structurally control high peak loads that occur in a rollover without a total failure of the protective system, particularly of the locking device in deployable systems, the invention provides that the roll bar body, possibly the associated guide element and its fixation on the vehicle as well as the retraction blocking mechanism be configured as a rigid system relative to the maximum load that occurs in a rollover. A cross-member-type support element terminating the roll bar body on the end face is configured as a predetermined deformation point for a limited defined deformation path in load direction for energy degradation.

  • Publication number: 20030205891
Abstract: Such systems typically have an extendable rollover bar (1), which in its extended position is locked against being pushed back in by a locking pawl (12) that is in operative locking engagement with a toothed segment (11). To make it possible by simple means to use both hands to return the rollover bar (1) to its retracted position when required, the invention provides a reversing lever (14), which can be manually brought to a self-holding position above dead center while unlocking the locking pawl (12) before the rollover bar is pushed in. This self-holding position can be automatically canceled again just before the rollover bar reaches its standby position.
