  • Publication number: 20240224452
Abstract: A heads-up display includes an enclosure that includes electronics to operate the heads-up display and a visor attached to the enclosure. The heads-up display further includes a screen attached to the visor and the enclosure; and a cover assembly that is secured to the enclosure. The cover assembly includes a cap that seals the enclosure and includes at least opening; a hydrophobic membrane that prevents moisture from entering the enclosure through the at least one opening while permitting air to enter and exit the enclosure through the opening in the cap. An insert is secured to the cap and a valve is secured to the insert. The valve includes an inlet valve secured to the insert and an outlet valve secured to the insert such that the inlet valve allows air to flow into the enclosure and the outlet valve allows air to flow out of the enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20200301153
Abstract: A Near-Eye-Display (NED) device having a housing shell that is integrated with molded boss clusters for precision mounting of hardware components. The techniques disclosed herein include forming a housing shell directly over one or more pre-molded boss clusters that have been inserted into cavities of a housing shell mold core. For example, with the pre-molded boss clusters already inserted into the cavities, a selected housing shell material such as a thermosetting epoxy resin impregnated carbon fiber reinforced (CFRP) fabric may be thermal compression molded over the housing shell mold core. Individual ones of the pre-molded boss clusters include one or more “three-dimensional (3D)” bosses for mounting various hardware components of the NED device. The bosses may protrude from an inner surface of the housing shell and may provide interior mounting features without affecting the appearance of the outer surface of the housing shell.

  • Publication number: 20190377189
Abstract: A housing, including mounting features for directly mounted components, is formed by curing carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and a molding compound (MC) such as a sheet molding compound (SMC) or a bulk molding compound (BMC). SMC or BMC may be used depending on the implementation. This forms a housing with mounting features in a thermoset manner, in which the weight of a product such as a head mounted display (which incorporates the housing comprising the mounting features) is reduced, and any orientation issues or problems are significantly reduced.
