  • Publication number: 20090101620
Abstract: A storage and drinking container for pressurised beverages comprises a drinking vessel (1) having a lip (3) and a lid formed from a cap (5) and retaining ring (12). The cap (5) seals with a sealing surface (4) on the inside of the neck of the drinking vessel and is retained in place by fingers (8) engaging under a lip (3). The fingers 8 are retained in position by a retaining ring (12). Cooperating sets of cammed surfaces (10) and (13) on the cap (5) and retaining ring (12) act on rotation of the retaining ring to axially separate the retaining ring (12) from the cap (5), releasing the fingers 8 from under the lip (3) and permitting the lid to be removed. The invention provides a drinking vessel with a wide neck which can be reliably sealed without the necessity to provide screw threads on the outer surface of the drinking vessel (1).

  • Publication number: 20090041477
Abstract: Systems and methods for use with an optical communication beam are disclosed. The system allows the beam of light to operate at an adequate power level that provides a robust optical link while minimizing any safety risk to humans. The system calibrates and controls the gain for an avalanche photodiode detector (APD). A detector circuit is used to calibrate the APD. Once calibrated, the detector circuit further provides an electrical bias to the APD to process or condition the electrical signal to produce a detector output. The systems and methods disclosed herein attenuate the power level of an incoming communication beam to prevent oversaturation of an APD. The system further provides an alignment signal, which is effective over a wide dynamic range of incoming power levels.

  • Publication number: 20080177582
Abstract: Methods and devices for reducing costs associated with life settlement transactions include an initial economic evaluation and a targeted but abbreviated verification of information provided by a potential customer and gathering of additional information, followed by a conditional offer for those policies that satisfy the economic criteria (e.g., face value of policy, stated life expectancy, etc.) and for which the abbreviated verification is positive. The verification and additional information may be performed by one or more of following: 1) a query of a prescription database in which the identity and use of the prescription drugs identified by the customer are determined; 2) a questionnaire filled out by a physician treating the patient for a particular illness; and 3) a telephone inquiry of the insured. If the additional information and verification are consistent with the initial information, the life settlement is completed.

  • Patent number: 7337373
Abstract: Many computing system environments require continuous availability and high operational readiness. The ability to find, diagnose, and correct actual faults and potential faults in these systems is a high priority. By combining a continually updated database of computing system performance with the ability to analyze that information to detect faults and then communicating that fault information to correct the fault or provide appropriate notification of the fault results in achieving the goals of high availability and operational readiness. FIG. (1) shows how the data collectors, fault detectors and policy actions are combined to meet those goals.
