  • Publication number: 20230192004
Abstract: The disclosure provides a lockable rooftop carrier clamp having a housing with a bore for accepting a frusto-conically shaped locking post. At least one, and preferably a pair of bolts are biased inwardly into the bore to capture the locking post. The bolts can be moved transversely outwardly by a cam on the outside wall of a hollow rotor located in the bore for pivotal rotation about an axis defined by the bore. The pivoting of the rotor is only allowed by the proper orientation of a tumbler core in a tumbler lock, which then allows either rotation of a release lever or retraction of a locking pin.

  • Patent number: 11359405
Abstract: A lock has a locked condition and an unlocked condition comprising a barrel with a circular bore having three splines. A cylindrical plug is adapted to reside in the bore. First, second and retaining tumblers are positioned in tumbler slots, with the first and retaining tumblers biased in one direction toward the first spline and the second tumbler biased in the opposite direction into the second spline. When a first key is inserted, the first and second tumblers are moved against the bias so they retract from the respective splines and the plug can be rotated from the locked and unlocked conditions. When a second key is inserted while in the unlocked condition, the first, second and retaining tumblers are moved so the respective tumblers are either positioned in the third longitudinal spline or fully retained in the plug and the plug can be retracted axially from the barrel.

  • Patent number: 9728351
Abstract: A simple kit of parts is provided that can be used to replace a few easily removed elements of a lockable push button actuator of a mechanical locking mechanism to convert the push button actuator to a lockable actuator for controlling a switch that can serve as a component of an electrical locking system. Other aspects of the invention relate to a method of making the mechanical to electrical conversion, and to a lockable actuator for operating an electrical switch connected to the actuator.

  • Patent number: 9644397
Abstract: A tubular lock and its operating key have safety features that render the lock and key well suited for use with food freezer appliances and the like where the keyway of the lock extends horizontally. The tubular portion of the operating key, and the keyway of the tubular lock are cooperatively configured so a key inserted into the keyway of the lock fits quite loosely and is minimally supported even when fully inserted. The graspable bow of the operating key is made unusually long causing the center of gravity of an inserted operating key to be spaced far from the front face of the lock—so the weight of the loosely fitting and minimally supported operating key levers the graspable bow downwardly, causing the key to drop from the keyway unless being held in the keyway. Gravity is optimally used to effect key ejection.

  • Patent number: 9340327
Abstract: A combination operated lock for use with a security container that has a zippered closure operated by a pull tab movable between open and closed positions, with the lock being operable, when locked, to retain the pull tab in closed position until the lock is unlocked by setting a combination. The lock preferably has a housing connected to a flexible fabric wall of the security container, and dials that are turned to set a combination for unlocking the lock. In some embodiments, the lock cannot be unlocked unless and until a one-use seal is broken and removed from the housing to which the seal was attachable only after the lock was locked.

  • Patent number: 8881558
Abstract: A lock for luggage, travelcases, briefcases and the like that can be unlocked by setting a combination using a combination mechanism of the lock, and, alternatively, by using a key in a key mechanism of the lock. An indicator of the lock moves to signal when the lock has been unlocked by use of the key mechanism. In some embodiments the indicator can only be reset after the lock has been unlocked using the combination mechanism. In some embodiments the indicator is automatically reset when the lock is unlocked using the combination mechanism. In some embodiments the lock is a padlock that has a shackle defined, at least in part, by a flexible cable.

  • Patent number: 8857230
Abstract: A lock for a retractable cover which overlies a bed of a pickup truck has a cover-connectable housing and a handle that pivots relative to the housing for clamping a pointed tip of a flexibly mounted fastener into engagement with a nearby member such as a guide rail extending along one side of the bed of a pickup truck to retain a housing-connected retractable cover in a chosen position. A push button trigger pivoted on the handle is depressable to unlatch the handle and thereby release the clamping action of the handle. A torsion spring biases the trigger relative to the handle. A compression spring biases the handle relative to the housing. A leaf spring flexibly mounts the fastener on the handle. A key-operated plug assembly may retain the trigger in a latched position.

  • Patent number: 8499594
Abstract: A combination operated padlock has indicia carrying dials that are turned to set a combination for unlocking a shackle of the padlock. Operating components of the padlock are carried by or within a housing-enclosed frame of the padlock. A strong, corrosion resistant insert, preferably formed from brass of uniform thickness, is configured to fit cleverly around and among the movable operating components to strengthen the padlock and to prevent operating component manipulation if an unauthorized unlocking of the padlock is attempted. In a preferred embodiment, the insert has two substantially identical question-mark-shaped tines configured to extend toward and between different adjacent pairs of the dials that are turned to set a combination.
