    Abstract: A method of restoring a low cell voltage of a fuel cell in a fuel cell system to a normal cell voltage without reducing a total power output level of the fuel cell system is disclosed. The method includes operating the fuel cell system at a selected total power output level, monitoring a cell voltage of the fuel cell, detecting a low cell voltage of the fuel cell, maintaining the selected total power output level of the fuel cell system and restoring the fuel cell from the low cell voltage to the normal cell voltage by increasing flow of a gas to the fuel cell from a baseline stoichiometry to an elevated stoichiometry.
