  • Patent number: 9025676
Abstract: A method, system and device are provided for pre-filtering device for filtering a video signal prior to digitally encoding. The method includes receiving at least one input picture and at least one reconstructed picture from an encoding process and performing an in-loop temporal filtering process using at least one input picture and at least one reconstructed picture from an encoding process to output a pre-filtered video signal for use in an encoding process. The result is enabling an encoding process to produce an output with increased temporal correlation between adjacent pictures regardless of the coding type, since the artifacts introduced by the encoding process are also considered by the process.

  • Patent number: 9026259
Abstract: A microgrid including a renewable power source is optimized by treating the renewable source as operating in an isochronous mode, and by decomposing the optimization process. A renewable capability is defined for the renewable source to enable treatment of the renewable source as operating in an isochronous mode. The renewable capability may be based on a power rating of the renewable source. An objective function of the microgrid optimization problem may then be optimized while treating the renewable source as operating in an isochronous mode. A penalty factor may be applied to avoid power shortage.

  • Patent number: 9026789
Abstract: A device certificate binds an identity of a first device to a public key of the first device. The first device comprises a certificate authority service that creates for a process on the first device a process certificate certifying one or more capabilities of the process on the first device. The process certificate is presented to the second device. Upon validating the process certificate using the device certificate, the second device permits the process on the first device to have on the second device one or more of the verified certified capabilities.

  • Patent number: 9026814
Abstract: A power context system is described herein that makes decisions related to device power usage based on factors such as location, load, available alternatives, cost of power, and cost of bandwidth. The system incorporates contextual knowledge about the situation in which a device is being used. Using the context of location, devices can make smarter decisions about deciding which processes to migrate to the cloud, load balancing between applications, and switching to power saving modes depending on how far the user is from a power source. As the cloud becomes more frequently used, load balancing by utilizing distributed data warehouses to move processes to different locations in the world depending on factors such as accessibility, locales, and cost of electricity are considerations for power management. Power management of mobile devices is becoming important as integration with the cloud yields expectations of devices being able to reliably access and persist data.

  • Patent number: 9022084
Abstract: A tire having a tread includes an outer tread layer and an inner tread layer. The inner tread layer includes one of a first elastomeric compound and a second elastomeric compound. The outer tread layer includes the other of the first and second elastomeric compounds. The second elastomeric compound has a lower rolling resistance and greater resistance to treadwear than the first elastomeric compound. The inner tread layer increases in thickness across at least a widthwise portion of the outer tread layer with a maximum thickness of one of the inner tread layer and the outer tread layer occurring near at least one of a first shoulder and a second shoulder of the tread. As the tread wears, the inner tread layer defines a greater proportion of a running surface of the tread.

  • Patent number: 9026994
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that generate notifications that are delivered to translators who provide updates or translations that are included in localization resources for software applications are provided. Resources are stored on a cloud device in a development file or a public database. The public database stores the content that is selected for modification or translation. The languages may be selected by one or more application developers or may be based on a geographic region associated with the content or the language currently associated with the content. One or more translators are identified based on matches to translator profiles included in the public database. The matching translators receive notifications, which inform the translator that updates or translations are requested. In turn, the translators may access the public database and provide the updates or translations.

  • Patent number: 9027004
Abstract: Application computer instructions can be provided to a publishing server. The publishing service can parse the application computer instructions to identify one or more locations where supplemental computer instructions can be inserted. Metadata about purchasable items can be obtained and the supplemental computer instructions can be written based on the item metadata. The supplemental computer instructions can be inserted into the application computer instructions. A publishable application can be created by compiling the application computer instructions with the inserted supplemental computer instructions.

  • Patent number: 9022176
Abstract: An active/passive system for managing the temperature of fluid within an automatic transmission includes two heat exchangers, an active solenoid valve and a passive wax motor valve. A first heat exchanger provides transmission fluid heating and receives a flow of engine coolant. A second heat exchanger provides transmission fluid cooling and is exposed to ambient air. The solenoid valve which is preferably driven by a signal from a transmission control module (TCM) and the wax motor valve cooperate to provide three states of operation: transmission fluid heating, that is, heat added, cooling, that is, heat removed and pass-through or bypass (without heating or cooling).

  • Patent number: 9027119
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for determining authentication frequency (i.e., the length of time between authenticating and re-authenticating a user) and challenge type (e.g., username/password, fingerprint recognition, voice recognition, etc.) based on what software applications a user is running on a data-processing system, and how those applications are being used (e.g., what functions are used, what data is input to or output by the application, how often and for how long applications are used, what input devices and output devices are used, etc.) Advantageously, the illustrative embodiment enables authentication frequency and challenge type to be adjusted based on the likelihood of malicious activity and/or the potential cost of malicious activity, as inferred from current and past application usage. In addition, the illustrative embodiment enables selection of an authentication challenge type that is less intrusive to a user based on current application usage.

  • Patent number: 9026809
Abstract: A system for combining power to a load in a Powered Device (PD) using Power Over Ethernet (PoE) receives power from a first channel and power from a second channel, via four pairs of wires. A MOSFET bridge for each channel is initially disabled. A bridge controller IC simultaneously senses all the voltages and controls the bridge MOSFETs. The bridge controller IC also contains a first PoE handshaking circuit. A second PoE handshaking circuit is external to the bridge controller IC and operates independently. The body diodes in the MOSFET bridge initially couple the first channel to the second PoE handshaking circuit while isolating the second channel. The second handshaking circuit then couples the first channel to the load. The first handshaking circuit then carries out a PoE handshaking routine for the second channel. Ultimately, the bridge controller controls the bridge MOSFETs to couple both channels to the load.

  • Patent number: 9022977
Abstract: Methods for easy, atraumatic access to areas of the vasculature that are otherwise difficult to access, using steerable guide catheters constructed with components that are selected to provide optimal navigability, torque transfer, and push ability for a variety of typical percutaneous access routes. The catheter wall thickness in the deflecting segment of the guide catheter is about 1 French (? mm) or less, and includes a slotted deflection tube, and this construction allows a very tight turning radius which in turn enables guide catheter access to regions of the vasculature that are otherwise inaccessible.
