  • Patent number: 5544990
Abstract: A toolhead mounting assembly for a machine tool generally consisting of a support plate member mountable on a component of the machine tool, a mounting plate member having means for mounting a toolhead unit thereon, one of the plate member having a pair of parallel guide slots each provided with a lining of a stuctural polymer material, and the other of the plate materials having edges received within the guide slots in sliding engagement with such linings to permit displacement of the mounting plate member relative to the support plate member and means for displacing the mounting plate member relative to the support plate member along a line of travel parallel to the guide slots.

  • Patent number: 5524328
Abstract: In a machine tool having a base member, a table supported on the base member, on which a workpiece may be positioned to be machined, and a toolhead assembly supported on the base member, provided with a tool engageable with the workpiece positioned on the table for performing a work function relative thereto wherein the table and the toolhead assembly are displaceable relative to each other along a line of travel, an assembly for holding down a workpiece positioned on the table upon relative displacement of the table and the toolhead assembly along the line of travel generally consisting of at least one upper roller having an axis disposed transversely relative to the line of travel and engageable in rolling contact with an upper surface of a workpiece positioned on the table, a set of lower rollers each having an axis disposed transversely relative to the line of travel and engageable in rolling contact with an undersurface of the table and means supported on the base member and operatively interconnecting t

  • Patent number: 5471724
Abstract: A toolhead assembly for a machine tool generally consisting of a housing supportable on the machine tool and having at least one elongated bore therein, a liner formed of a structural polymer material disposed in the bore, adhesively secured to the housing and having a cylindrical inner wall surface, a spindle shaft journal in the housing and disposed coaxially in the liner for axial displacement therein, the spindle shaft having a head section rigidly mounted on the spindle shaft and engagable in sliding relation to the liner inner wall to provide fluid chambers on either side thereof, means for injecting fluid under pressure selectively into the chambers for axially displacing the spindle shaft, means for spinning the spindle shaft about its axis and means for securing a tool bit to the spindle shaft.

  • Patent number: 5425607
Abstract: In a machine tool having a base member, a moveable member and a drive screw assembly for displacing the moveable member relative to the base member, an anti-whip device for the drive screw assembly generally consisting of a support member mounted on the base member and displaceable between a first position supporting an elongated drive screw, and in a path of travel of the moveable member and a second position not supporting the drive screw and out of the path of travel of the moveable member, yieldable means for biasing the support member into the first position and means disposed on the moveable member and engageable with the support member for camming the support member from the first position to the second position against the biasing action of the biasing means when the drive screw is driven and the moveable means is caused to traverse past the support member.

  • Patent number: 5415211
Abstract: An apparatus for machining a square inside corner on a workpiece. The apparatus comprises a rotatable shaft, a device cooperating with the shaft for transferring the rotating motion of the shaft to transverse oscillating motion, and a cutting tool mounted to the device and moving in the transverse oscillating motion. The cutting tool preferably includes a blade contoured to produce the desired cutting surface. Both edges of the blade are cutting edges and are disposed at a 45.degree. angle. The device comprises a pin mounted on and offset from the shaft, a sliding plate to which the cutting tool is mounted, and a pair of sliding sleeves on either side of the sliding plate. The sliding plate includes an elongated slot to receiving the pin so that as the shaft rotates, the pin is moved within the slot causing the sliding plate to slide transversely within the sliding sleeves to provide the transverse oscillating motion.
