  • Publication number: 20130269809
Abstract: An injection device for administering a reagent into an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine, the injection device having an axis along its length and comprising an outwardly opening valve member having a seating surface which is engageable with a valve seating region. A seating member provided with an internal bore which defines the valve seating region, wherein the internal bore further defines a flow re-directing region downstream of the valve seating region. The seating member has an end face provided with a feature which intersects with at least a portion of the flow re-directing region to define, together with the flow re-directing region, a spray path for reagent exiting the injection device when the valve member is moved outwardly from the bore away from the valve seating region. The spray path has a variable spray angle, relative to the axis, around the circumference of the valve seating region.

  • Patent number: 8544764
Abstract: A method of operating a fuel injector having a piezoelectric actuator for controlling movement of an injector valve needle comprises: (a) prior to an initial fuel injection event, reducing the voltage across the actuator at an initial rate so as to de-energize the actuator; (b) increasing the voltage across the actuator at a first rate in order to initiate an initial fuel injection event of a first fuel injection sequence; and (c) reducing the voltage across the actuator at a second rate in order to terminate the initial fuel injection event. The method may further comprise the step of: (d) increasing the voltage across the actuator at a third rate, which is lower than the first rate, so as to de-energize the actuator but without initiating an injection event, once the initial fuel injection event has terminated and before a subsequent fuel injection event is initiated.

  • Publication number: 20130231855
Abstract: A method of implementing an optimal avoidance filter for interposing between a human operator issued movement commands and a corresponding machine control system of a movable machine, for the avoidance of collisions with objects. The method: includes inputting a detailed representation of objects in the vicinity of the movable machine; and formulating a hierarchical set of bounding boxes around the objects. The hierarchical set including refinement details depending on the current positional state of the movable machine, with objects closer to the machine having higher levels of refinement details. The method further includes utilizing the resultant hierarchical set as a set of constraints for a mixed integer optimisation problem to determine any alterations to the issued movement commands so as to avoid collisions with any objects.

  • Publication number: 20130229944
Abstract: A wireless communication device is configured to store a plurality of profiles associated with applications. Each profile includes at least a discovery mode property and a device type property. In response to an application being activated, the wireless device enables a discovery mode for performing discovery in accordance with the discovery mode property retrieved from a selected profile associated with the application. When one or more devices are available for discovery, the wireless device receives information from each device, filters the received information to provide filtered information associated with one or more devices having a device type that matches the device type property, and provides the filtered information to the application. The wireless device may then establish, in accordance with one or more properties retrieved from the selected profile, a Wi-Fi P2P wireless network connection with at least one of the devices.

  • Publication number: 20130229923
Abstract: Techniques are described for use in scanning by a mobile device which is configured to communicate in compliance with regulatory requirements of a regulatory domain based on country information communicated in one or more beacon frames. The mobile device scans a radio frequency (RF) band using passive scan operations on RF channels having passive scan status, where each passive scan operation involves monitoring an RF channel in attempt to decode a beacon frame. When the mobile device successfully decodes, on an RF channel for a passive scan operation, an information frame of a type that is different from a beacon frame, it changes the passive scan status of the RF channel to an active scan status and performs an active scan operation on the RF channel.

  • Publication number: 20130182650
Abstract: A source device has a wireless communication interface. Through the wireless communication interface, the source device establishes a communication session over a wireless medium with a sink device and determines a maximum capacity of a buffer at the sink device for receipt of audio samples to be transmitted in packets from the source device to the sink device in an asynchronous connectionless link over the wireless medium. Scheduling access to the wireless medium by the wireless communication interface for transmission of audio samples on the link takes into account the maximum capacity of the buffer.

  • Patent number: 8481726
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of specific sterically hindered nitroxyl ethers from their corresponding sterically hindered nitroxyl radicals by reacting it with an aldehyde and a hydroperoxide. This nitroxyl ether formation may be carried out from different starting nitroxyl radicals, which are subsequently further reacted to the desired compounds. The compounds prepared by this process are effective as stabilizers for polymers against harmful effects of light, oxygen and/or heat and as flame-retardants for polymers.

  • Publication number: 20130169316
Abstract: A tri-state control mechanism can be implemented for a line driver of a transmitter unit to switch the output impedance of the transmitter unit between a low impedance state in the transmit mode and a high impedance state in the receive mode while minimizing turn-off glitch. It may be determined whether a communication device comprising the transmitter unit is configured in a transmit operating mode or a receive operating mode. If the communication device is configured in the receive operating mode, a first bias voltage can be generated to bias output transistors of the line driver circuit in a sub-threshold state. If the communication device is configured in the transmit operating mode, a second bias voltage can be generated to bias output transistors of the line driver circuit in a saturation state.

  • Publication number: 20130155926
Abstract: A mechanism can be implemented in a communication unit of a network device to utilize periods of silence encountered in voice communication to conserve power at the network device. In some embodiments, it can be determined that one or more packets of a received RF signal comprise audio data. The communication unit of the network device can determine whether the audio data associated with the one or more packets comprises voice information. The network device can switch to a power save mode based, at least in part, on determining that the audio data associated with the one or more packets does not comprise voice information.
