  • Patent number: 4919501
Abstract: An opto-mechanical deflector system for an imaging system comprises at least one scanning mirror struck by a collimated light beam focused onto a flat image plane by a first plano-convex lens, a concave mirror and an aplanatic lens system containing a plano-concave lens and a second plano-convex lens between said scanning mirror and said first plano-convex lens, the refractive indices of said first plano-convex lens and said plano-concave lens being substantially indentical and the refractive index of said second plano-convex lens being substantially less than that of said plano-concave lens.

  • Patent number: 4690485
Abstract: An optical flat bed deflection system comprises at least one rotating active reflective face (6) for deflecting a beam of parallel rays (1) along a deflection or scan line in a planar deflection plane (15), and an imaging optical system, i.e., an f.theta. lens arrangement, interposed between the active reflective face and the deflection plane. In order to reduce the disturbing influence of the bearing wobbling during rotation, on the image, a reverse-telescope like optical system is provided in front of the imaging optical system for enlarging one exit angle of the active reflective faces. In connection therewith, only two rotating active reflective faces are provided, each one of which is provided as a prism.

  • Patent number: 4632512
Abstract: A variable laser beam attenuator for typographical composing and printing machines is disposed in the optical axis of a laser light source emitting polarized light of only one polarization. A rotatable filter wheel having a plurality of absorption filters therein for obtaining a coarse adjustment is followed by a fine adjustment means comprising two plane-parallel glass plates disposed in a mutually symmetrically inclined manner in a holder for infinitely variable attenuation without deflection of the laser light beam. The inclination of the glass plates is selected such that the angle of laser beam incidence is approximately equal to the Brewster Angle. The holder is adapted to pivot together with the glass plates as a unit, about the optical axis.

  • Patent number: 4629283
Abstract: An optical flat bed scanning system, particularly useable in a typesetter, has an optical device to linearize beam deflection positions in a planar deflection plane with essentially two elements. The optical device comprises an aplanatic unit lens with an approximately planar surface and a spherically convex surface and a field flattening mirror with a spherical reflecting surface.

  • Patent number: 4185902
Abstract: A phototypesetter has an optical path including a beam splitter intersecting the main light path and an auxiliary light path for reflecting the auxiliary light path into the main light path. An absorption element with a concave front surface is mounted behind the beam splitter to absorb the non-reflected light from the auxiliary beam. Additionally, the concave surface directs the nonabsorbed light to a light absorbent body.

  • Patent number: 3959802
Abstract: An apparatus for use in a photocomposing machine for placing character images in side by side relationship on a recording medium, which apparatus comprises two periscopes arranged such that the exit axis of the first periscope coincides with the entrance axis of the second periscope and in which both periscopes are swingable about axes that coincide with the entrance axes of the respective periscopes.
