Patent number: 11643016Abstract: Systems and methods for a rear-viewing camera system for a vehicle. A first camera is mounted on the vehicle with a field of view that is at least partially obstructed by a tailgate of the vehicle and/or a load carried by the vehicle. A second camera is mounted on the vehicle with a field of view that includes an unobstructed view of an imaging area that is obstructed in the field of view of the first camera. A tailgate position sensor is configured to output a signal indicative of a current position of the tailgate of the vehicle. By determining a position of the tailgate, an electronic controller is configured to generate an output image in which the tailgate and/or the load appear at least partially transparent by replacing image data that is obstructed in the image captured by the first camera with image data captured by the second camera.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2022Date of Patent: May 9, 2023Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Christian Sperrle, Michael R. Meier, Elizabeth Kao

Patent number: 11220214Abstract: A system and method provide rearward viewing for a vehicle driver. The rearward viewing system includes left side and right side video cameras for obtaining video image rearwardly outwardly from the sides of the vehicle. Left side and right side electronic image displays display portions of the images. A vehicle interior driver monitoring camera senses an upper body position of a driver. An electronic processor is configured to receive an upper body position and determine portions of the left side video images to display on the left side electronic image display, and to determine portions of the right side video images to display on the right side electronic image display. Additional movements of a driver adjust a field of view of the left side video images by changing portions thereof that are provided to the left side electronic image display. Right side and rearview images are also adjusted.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2020Date of Patent: January 11, 2022Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Michael R. Meier, Christian Sperrle

Patent number: 9840239Abstract: A method and system for determining a maximum cornering braking threshold for a motorcycle includes determining an absolute lean angle with respect to horizontal and a relative lean angle for the motorcycle relative to a road surface. The maximum cornering braking threshold is determined from at least the absolute lean angle and the relative lean angle. The maximum cornering braking threshold is used to provide stability during motorcycle cornering. A multi-dimensional look-up table stores different maximum cornering braking thresholds that correspond to different combinations of absolute lean angles and relative lean angles. The relative lean angle is determined by processing video data from a video sensor. Values for additional conditions, such as motorcycle speed, wheel slip coefficient, steering angle, mue and type of road way are stored in the multi-dimensional look-up table to assist in determining the maximum cornering braking threshold.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2015Date of Patent: December 12, 2017Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Michael R. Patent number: 8508898Abstract: Systems and methods of diagnosing a condition of a reverse-voltage protection switch in an electric system. The electric system includes a power source, an electric load, and a reverse-voltage protection switch in a series-type configuration. The electric system further includes a ground switch configured to selectively connect the source terminal of the reverse-voltage protection circuit to ground. The terminals of the reverse-voltage protection circuit are disconnected from the power source. The ground switch is closed to connect one terminal of the reverse-voltage protection switch to ground. A bias voltage is applied to the other terminal of the reverse-voltage protection switch and the reverse-voltage protection switch is opened. An improper short-circuit condition across the reverse-voltage protection switch is detected when the voltage at the biased terminal of the reverse-voltage protection switch is less than a threshold when the reverse-voltage protection switch is opened.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2012Date of Patent: August 13, 2013Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: David Burnham, Michael R. Patent number: 7791670Abstract: Image processing parameters of an imaging chip in a vision-based occupant sensing system are adjusted for each frame based on ambient illumination responsive information obtained in the idle period preceding that frame. The same sensing data is also used to determine if active illumination is needed to supplement existent ambient illumination during the ensuing image acquisition interval. The inter-frame ambient illumination is detected with an external light sensor or with selected pixels of the imaging chip, and the information is used to calculate and set the gain and integration time of the imaging chip. In applications where the resolution of the imaging chip significantly exceeds the resolution required for occupant sensing, intensity data from one or more otherwise inactive pixels is averaged with the intensity data from the normally active pixels to adapt the sensitivity of the imaging chip to changing ambient illumination.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2005Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: William W. Fultz, Michael R Meier, Ronald M. Taylor, Thomas L. Voreis, Robert K Constable, George J. Noland
