  • Patent number: 10161547
Abstract: A combination of roller tools is used to cold work a pipe element and impart a desired shape to the sidewall. The roller tools are movably mounted on a frame. Segments of the roller tools align with one another during operation. The roller tools are used in a method of roll forming wherein the sidewall of the pipe element is compressed between the rollers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 8, 2016
Date of Patent: December 25, 2018
    Assignee: Victaulic Company
Inventors: Michael R. Novitsky, Earl Haas, Douglas R. Dole

  • Patent number: 9038428
Abstract: A method of forming a groove in a pipe element by spin forming wherein the pipe element is pinched between an arbor revolving in an eccentric orbit of expanding diameter within the pipe element and an outer die which captures the pipe element. The pinching action causes a portion of the pipe element to move radially inwardly away from the die contrary to the direction of the motion of the arbor.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 26, 2015
    Assignee: Victaulic Company
Inventors: Michael R. Novitsky, Earl Haas
  • Patent number: 9010164
Abstract: In a method for forming a pipe element, a spin forming tool is revolved in an orbit of increasing diameter within the pipe element. The pipe element is captured within a die. The method forms a circumferential shoulder at one end. The shoulder has an outer diameter greater than the outer diameter of the pipe element. A groove is formed adjacent to the shoulder. The groove has a floor surface with an outer diameter less than the outer diameter of the pipe element. A bead is formed contiguous with the groove. The bead has an apex with an outer diameter greater than the outer diameter of the pipe element.

  • Publication number: 20120139236
Abstract: A pipe element has a circumferential shoulder at one end. The shoulder has an outer diameter greater than the outer diameter of the pipe element. A groove is positioned adjacent to the shoulder. The groove has a floor surface with an outer diameter less than the outer diameter of the pipe element. A bead is positioned contiguous with the groove. The bead has an apex with an outer diameter greater than the outer diameter of the pipe element. A combination of roller tools is used to cold work pipe elements and impart a desired shape to the sidewall in one method of manufacture. In another method, a spin forming tool is revolved in an orbit of increasing diameter within the pipe element captured within a die.
