  • Patent number: 8173208
Abstract: A method for producing graphite spheres from graphite fines by charging a quantity of spherical media into a rotatable cylindrical overcoater, charging a quantity of graphite fines into the overcoater thereby forming a first mixture of spherical media and graphite fines, rotating the overcoater at a speed such that the first mixture climbs the wall of the overcoater before rolling back down to the bottom thereby forming a second mixture of spherical media, graphite fines, and graphite spheres, removing the second mixture from the overcoater, sieving the second mixture to separate graphite spheres, charging the first mixture back into the overcoater, charging an additional quantity of graphite fines into the overcoater, adjusting processing parameters like overcoater dimensions, graphite fines charge, overcoater rotation speed, overcoater angle of rotation, and overcoater time of rotation, before repeating the steps until graphite fines are converted to graphite spheres.

  • Patent number: 6934594
Abstract: A method for scheduling the manufacture of an item, in a factory which includes planning a time for manufacturing an item so as to have the manufacture of the item complete during a desired shipping window, determining the desired shipping window so as to allow the item to be shipped via a lower cost shipping method while arriving at a destination as if shipped via an expedited shipping method, and determining a carrier service for shipping the item so as to enable the item to be shipped via a lower cost shipping method while arriving at a destination as if shipped via an expedited shipping method is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6505094
Abstract: A method for preparing items for shipment in a distribution facility with multiple pallet-build squares may include a step of identifying an available pallet-build square among the multiple pallet-build squares. An item may then be transported to an operator for the available pallet-build square. Item data from a scan of a barcode on the item may then be received, and in response, a display may be automatically updated to identify the available pallet for the operator.

  • Patent number: 6475411
Abstract: A method of making an adsorbent carbon fiber based monolith having improved methane gas storage capabilities is disclosed. Additionally, the monolithic nature of the storage carbon allows it to exhibit greater thermal conductivity than conventional granular activated carbon or powdered activated carbon storage beds. The storage of methane gas is achieved through the process of physical adsorption in the micropores that are developed in the structure of the adsorbent monolith. The disclosed monolith is capable of storing greater than 150 V/V of methane [i.e., >150 STP (101.325 KPa, 298K) volumes of methane per unit volume of storage vessel internal volume] at a pressure of 3.5 MPa (500 psi).

  • Patent number: 5454928
Abstract: A method of forming solid metal vias extending between the top and bottom surfaces of a substrate with the ends of the vias being substantially coplanar with the top and bottom surfaces. The method includes the steps of forming holes through the substrate, plating the interior of the holes with excess metal to fill the holes and extend beyond the ends of the holes, heating the substrate to cause the metal to melt and consolidate to form solid vias with domed ends, and lapping the top and bottom surfaces of the substrate to remove the domes. Conductive layers may then be formed over the vias. These layers may have windows over a portion of each via to provide an escape route for expanding fluids during further processing of the substrate.
