  • Patent number: 8618316
Abstract: Esterquats (reaction products of a fatty acid source and a trialkanolamine) having a desirable distribution of mono-, di-, and tri-quat esters, such as at least 55 wt. % of the diester and at most 25% of the triester, can be produced by heating a trialkanolamine and a fatty acid source at a temperature ramp rate of 0.4° C. per minute or less. This result can be achieved, for example, by reducing the amount of catalyst to a suboptimal amount for rapid formation of the quat diester.

  • Publication number: 20130225409
Abstract: Quaternary ammonium, betaine, or sulfobetaine compositions derived from fatty amines, wherein the fatty amine is made by reducing the amide reaction product of a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives and a secondary amine, are disclosed. Quaternary ammonium, betaine, or sulfobetaine compositions derived from fatty amidoamines, wherein the amidoamine is made by reacting of a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives and an aminoalkyl-substituted tertiary amine, are also disclosed. The quaternized compositions are advantageously sulfonated or sulfated. In one aspect, the ester derivative of the C10-C17 monoun-saturated acid or octadecene-1,18-dioic acid is a lower alkyl ester. In other aspects, the ester derivative is a modified triglyceride made by self-metathesis of a natural oil or an unsaturated triglyceride made by cross-metathesis of a natural oil with an olefin.

  • Publication number: 20130225470
Abstract: Fatty amide compositions and their derivatives are disclosed. The fatty amides comprise a reaction product of a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives with a primary or secondary amine. Derivatives made by reducing, quaternizing, sulfonating, alkoxylating, sulfating, and sulfitating the fatty amide are also included. The amine reactant can be diethylenetriamine or (2-aminoethyl)ethanolamine, which provide imidazoline amides or N esters, respectively. In one aspect, the ester derivative of the C10-C17 monounsaturated acid or octadecene-1,18-dioic acid is a lower alkyl ester. In other aspects, the ester derivative is a modified triglyceride made by self-metathesis of a natural oil or an unsaturated triglyceride made by cross-metathesis of a natural oil with an olefin. The compositions are valuable for cleaners, fabric treatment, hair conditioning, personal care, antimicrobial compositions, agricultural uses, and oil field applications.

  • Publication number: 20130143986
Abstract: A film may be formed from film forming compositions which comprise at least one carboxamide based coalescing solvent. These coalescing solvents impart equivalent or improved wet-scrub resistance, block resistance, gloss, dirt pick-up resistance and leveling characteristics to the films on a substrate, without contributing to total VOC levels, when replacing conventional coalescing solvents. The present invention also includes a method for forming a film comprising applying a film forming composition comprising polyunsaturated reactive carboxamides to a substrate and curing the film under ambient conditions. The coalescing carboxamide solvents are suitable for paint, latex based caulk, adhesives and floor care applications.

  • Publication number: 20100197560
Abstract: A fabric conditioning active composition comprising an esterquat mixture of quaternised mono- di- and tri-esters of alkanolamine in which the tri-esterquat content of the quaternised esterquat mixture is from 25 to 50% by weight of said esterquat mixture. Additionally, (i) when the triesterquat content is from 25 to 30% by weight of said esterquat mixture the free amine content of the composition is less than 0.5% by weight on the weight on said esterquat mixture, and (ii) when the tri-esterquat content is more than 30% by weight of said esterquat mixture the free amine content of the composition is less than 6% by weight based on the weight of said esterquat mixture. The composition may contain less than 1% by weight of free fatty acid based on said esterquat mixture.

  • Patent number: 5822888
Abstract: A reversible shoe is comprised of a rubber, double-sided, grooved base with reversible uppers attached between sections of the base. The rear unzips and a midsole insert can be taken from the pegholes in the aforementioned base. The base is turned over and the insert from both shoes are then put on what was the bottom of it's mate. They're then rezipped and relaced to show a different color or design on the uppers, and a fresh tread on the base.
