  • Publication number: 20150203916
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and materials for assessing thoracic aortic aneurysm using a combination of protein and microRNA biomarkers. The presence or levels of the biomarkers can be measured in a body fluid, such as plasma and serum, or in cardiac tissue, to predict the presence and severity of TAA in a subject. This can be used to diagnose and monitor TAA, providing early detection of a lethal and silent disease, as well as reduce the frequency of radiological procedures, which are costly and potentially dangerous.

    Publication date: July 23, 2015
Inventors: John S. Ikonomidis, Jeffrey A. Jones, Mukherjee Rupak, Robert E. Stroud, Michael R. Zile
  • Patent number: 8790871
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of detecting and predicting diastolic heart failure and predicting congestive heart failure comprise protease and protease inhibitor profiling.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 24, 2007

Assignee: MUSC Foundation for Research Development
Inventors: Francis G. Spinale, Robert E. Stroud, Michael R. Zile
  • Patent number: 8592151
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and materials for assessing cardiac failure, cardiac hypertrophy, and left ventricular remodeling using microRNA levels. The level of microRNAs can be measured in a body fluid, such as plasma and serum.

  • Patent number: 8445222
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of detecting or predicting diastolic heart failure in a subject, comprising identifying a profile of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (TIMPs) from a body fluid of the subject that is associated herein with the existence of likely development of left ventricular dilation (LVD).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 11, 2007
Date of Patent: May 21, 2013
Assignee: MUSC Foundation for Research Development
