  • Patent number: 8265468
Abstract: A well bore fluid is heated to prevent paraffin build-up or lower the viscosity of asphaltenic crude in the production line by an electrical heating element lowered into a pre-determined subterranean location. The heating element is controlled by a control unit that is connected to a temperature sensor and a pressure sensor, which detects temperature and pressure in the vicinity of the heating element and modifies an electric power source to deliver sufficient electric power to the electric heating element to keep the paraffin or other alkanes in a liquefied state. By modifications, the same heater can be used to generate steam in a well bore for the same purposes or to heat oil in a tank battery to prevent solidification of high molecular weight constituents in the crude.

  • Patent number: 7509036
Abstract: A well bore fluid is being heated to prevent paraffin build-up in the production line by an electrical heating element lowered into a pre-determined subterranean location. The heating element is controlled by a control unit that is connected to a temperature sensor, which detects temperature in the vicinity of the heating element and energizes an above-the-surface electric power source to deliver sufficient electric power to the electric heating element to keep the paraffin substance in a liquefied state.

  • Publication number: 20060051080
Abstract: An apparatus for heating fluids produced in an oil producing well anywhere in the annulus that fluid exists. By incorporating the heating apparatus (10) as a section or joint of the tubing or attached to the down hole pump or gas lift system. Heating apparatus comprising an inner hollow tube (11 and 28). A heat source (12), supplied with electrical current by a suitable source of electrical energy or steam source (30) which may be employed. Outer cases (19, 20 and 29) that enclose termination areas creating moisture proof chambers (31 ). Threaded couplings (26 and 27) attached to the apparatus to allow integration of the heating apparatus (10) to existing piping system or pumping system.
