Patent number: 10086455Abstract: In a part having a surface, a bolt hole is provided extending into the part from the surface. Threads in the hole have crests with a fishmouth shape at the crests defined by a central concave portion and raised corner portions at ends of the concave portion. At least one start thread preceding the threads with the fishmouth shape crests is provided having a substantially flat crest without the fishmouth shape. A tap for manufacturing the threaded bolt hole has a first thread section and a second thread section. The second thread section has a plurality of threads for creating at least one improved start thread in the hole to be threaded, minor diameters at valleys between the threads of the second thread section being greater than minor diameters at valleys between threads of the first thread section or major diameters at crests of the threads of the second thread section being greater than major diameters at crests of the first thread section.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2015Date of Patent: October 2, 2018Assignee: Meadville Forging Co. Patent number: 9822028Abstract: Methods of processing a glass ribbon are provided. The method includes the step of traversing the glass ribbon through a travel path at a predetermined velocity and severing the glass ribbon to create an upstream web and a downstream web. The method further includes the step of increasing a relative velocity of a downstream edge portion with respect to an upstream edge portion to create a gap between an upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge. In other example methods, a segment of the glass ribbon is removed to create a gap between an upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge. In still further example methods, an upstream severed edge is directed along a second travel path to create a gap between the upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2015Date of Patent: November 21, 2017Assignee: Corning IncorporatedInventors: Chester Hann Huei Chang, Todd Benson Fleming, Dale Charles Marshall, Gary Edward Merz, Christopher Michael Rhoads, John Earl Tosch, Thaddeus Francis Trzeciak

Publication number: 20150259236Abstract: An apparatus and method for continuous edge separation in a continuous process for a ribbon of flexible brittle material such as a thin ribbon of glass is disclosed wherein an initial flaw or score is formed in the ribbon. The initial flaw is turned into a crack that propagates continuously throughout the processing of the ribbon. The cracking itself results in no material loss. After cracking, the cut side edge is routed along a path different than the interior quality region to avoid contact damage between the quality region and the edge portion. The quality region can be provided for further processing or be stored. The flexible, brittle ribbon can be sourced from a hot forming device or from a roll (spool) of substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 2, 2015Publication date: September 17, 2015Inventors: Dale Charles Marshall, Gary Edward Merz, Christopher Michael Rhoads

Publication number: 20060190542Abstract: Email communication between an elderly individual and registered friends and family is facilitated by displaying photographs received by email from registrants on a monitor display screen, displaying visual indicators on said screen in association with photographs of registrants from whom emails have been received, and providing a selection means for selecting a photograph having an associated visual indicator. Upon selection, text emails received from registrants are converted to an audio format and the emails are played. The individual can also send recorded emails to a registrant whose photograph is selected. When an individual initially registers with the system, an email is sent to the user's primary account manager, e.g., a relative, who sends a photograph to the user and invites the user's friends to register and send a photograph to the user's email address.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2005Publication date: August 24, 2006Inventor: Michael Rhoades

Patent number: 5148445Abstract: A high power TEM.sub.00 mode Nd:YLF solid state laser includes at least two pumped Nd:YLF solid state rods in series within a laser resonator. A spherical lens may be incorporated within the resonator as required for establishing, in concert with the rods and resonator end mirrors, a large intracavity beam diameter at the position of the rods. A cylindrical lens may be provided to compensate for astigmatic thermal focusing of the Nd:YLF rods, or else the rods may be used in pairs, in which case the rods are rotated by 90.degree. about the laser axis with respect to each other, and a half-wave plate is inserted between the rods of each pair to maintain oscillation at a single wavelength.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1990Date of Patent: September 15, 1992Assignee: Quantronix Corp.Inventors: Kuo-Ching Liu, Sten Tornegard, Michael Rhoades
