  • Publication number: 20010040585
Abstract: A method is disclosed for resizing multi-dimensionally rendered graphical images. A first step in the method divides a graphical image into a plurality of predefined resizable and non-resizable sections. A second step in the method further divides the resizable sections into a plurality of stretch areas. A third step in the method divides each stretch area into a cell matrix. A fourth step in the method resizes the graphical image by duplicating or removing a row or column of matrix cells in one or more of the stretch areas.

  • Patent number: 6284086
Abstract: A very low stress attachment method for attaching a microelectronic device to a flexible substrate comprises use of a photo initiated anisotropic conductive adhesive, preferably an infrared photo initiated anisotropic paste, which can be applied to the bonding terminals of a microelectronic device. The flex circuit is then aligned with the corresponding pads on the device. The flex circuit is then biased against the microelectronic device and the infrared photo initiated anisotropic adhesive is exposed to infrared light by means of a dual purpose light guide that presses against the back side of the polyimide flex circuit and simultaneously receives and guides light energy from an Nd: YAG laser to the back side of the polyimide flex circuit. Light energy from the laser passes through the polyimide substrate and between the circuit tracks of the flex circuit to excite the photo initiator of the photo initiated ACA material, thereby causing it to cure.

  • Patent number: 6263488
Abstract: A method and system for enabling the monitoring of software executing on a computer system. The system inserts monitor instrumentation without recompiling the source code of the program. Encapsulation of the target routine does not disrupt the relative addressing of the target routine since an instruction is simply replaced. No instructions are added to the target routine. User specified entry and exit routines are used to collect selected performance and system state data. Instrumentation code is provided to link the target routines to the user specified entry and exit routines. The standard link interface allows the entry and exit routines to be written in high level languages.

  • Patent number: 6237303
Abstract: The present invention provides for improvement of ductility and strength performance of connections in structural steel buildings made typically with rolled structural shapes, specifically in bolted and/or welded beam-to-column connections with welded flanges, by greatly reducing the very significant uneven stress distribution found in the conventionally designed connection at the column/beam weld, through use of slots in column and/or beam webs with or without continuity plates in the area of the column between the column flanges, as well as, optionally, extended shear plate connections with additional columns of bolts for the purpose of reducing the stress concentration factor in the center of the flange welds. Moreover, the slots in beam web adjacent to the beam flanges allow the beam web and flange to buckle independently thereby eliminating the degrading of the beam strength caused by lateral-torsional bucking.

  • Patent number: 6130276
Abstract: In a method of melting asphalt in a vessel, the molten asphalt normally emitting fumes, 0.2 weight percent to 6 weight percent of a polymer is added to the asphalt to reduce the visual opacity of the fumes by at least 25% over the same asphalt without the polymer. In another embodiment, the total emissions of benzene soluble suspended particulates is reduced by at least 15% over the same asphalt without the polymer. Preferably, the added polymer has a melt flow index of from 15 grams/10 minutes to 95 grams/10 minutes, and the added polymer reduces the visual opacity of the fumes by forming a skim on the upper surface of the molten asphalt.

  • Patent number: 6092186
Abstract: The present invention minimizes unneeded memory accesses by providing a digital processor having control circuit for terminating on-going memory accesses, and by a data transfer circuit that allow jump instructions to be detected sooner in the decode unit. The digital processor includes a decode unit, fetch unit and a memory controller. When the decode unit of the present invention processor determines that a discontinuity must occur in the instruction fetch sequence, it asserts a "jump taken" signal to the fetch unit to indicate that any pre-fetched instruction codes are to be discarded and that fetching is to resume at a new fetch program counter (FPC) value. If the fetch unit is currently stalled because of an outstanding request to the memory controller unit, then the fetch unit asserts an "abort" signal to the memory controller.

  • Patent number: 6058462
Abstract: A system incorporating the invention stores data on communicating disk drives in such a manner as to enable recovery of the data in the event a failure of one of the disk drives. The system includes a first disk drive and a second disk drive, both for storing compressed data records in compressed track formats. Each compressed data record includes a CRC value. A cache stores compressed tracks of data records that are read from the first disk drive and a CRC value is calculated for each stored track of compressed data records. That CRC value is appended to the compressed track. A switch is coupled between the cache, a host processor and the second disk drive for dispatching and receiving tracks of compressed data records between the first disk drive and the second disk drive.
