Patent number: 7707271Abstract: Personalized content is provided over a communications network such as the Internet. Providing personalized content includes both generating content which depends on the recipient of that content and delivering that content in a manner that depends on the recipient. Although methods of providing personalized content are known, none of those methods provide a mechanism for deciding when and how to personalize content. By enabling a content provided to send policy data to local caches and having a local agent computer arrange for content files to be delivered in accordance with those policy files, such a mechanism is provided.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2002Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: British Telecommunications plcInventors: Steven Rudkin, Michael Rizzo, Andrew R Carver

Patent number: 7590579Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for financial advisor messages in a networked computer system. A financial advisor associated with a financial services organization determines clients to receive a message, the financial advisor determines the message, and the message is transmitted over the network to be accessible by the clients. Methods are provided in which the message is required to be determined to be compliant prior to transmission to the clients. Methods are also provided in which individuals associated with the financial services organization, such as the financial advisor, are notified of a non-compliant message.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2003Date of Patent: September 15, 2009Assignee: UBS Financial Services, Inc.Inventors: Justin Data, Michael Rizzo, Rohit Kataria, Phil Hsu, J. Patent number: 7535853Abstract: In a communications network, which may be a federated network such as the Internet, a tariff is distributed via the network to customer terminals. At each terminal a charge for use of the network is calculated by using the tariff. Different tariffs may be communicated for different services and a respective tariff may be varied depending upon the operational condition of the service. Different tariffs may be calculated for different customers and the tariffs may be varied in dependence upon the loading of network resources and different tariffs may have different volatilities. Part of the traffic from a user to the network may be sampled and the status of the user may be amended when a discrepancy is detected between the sampled parameters and the contracted parameters in the users contract.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2005Date of Patent: May 19, 2009Assignee: British Telecommunications public limited companyInventors: Robert J Briscoe, Michael Rizzo

Patent number: 7400625Abstract: A data processing system method and software application program is provided for the efficient dissemination of information to multiple recipients over one or more communication channels in a communications network, for instance the multicast Internetwork. The method defines at least one primary data set for transmission over at least one primary communications channel in the network, where each primary data set includes data relating to at least one secondary data set associated therewith and provided for transmission over a secondary communications channel. The primary data set or sets are transmitted over primary communications channel(s) and at least one primary data set is modified in response to modifications to at least one secondary data set. The transmission step is repeated to provide potential recipient(s) of the primary data set or sets with an indication that at least one secondary data set has been modified independently of the recipient(s) receiving the modified secondary data set or sets.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2001Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Assignee: British Telecommunications public limited companyInventors: Michael Rizzo, Bob Briscoe

Patent number: 6359742Abstract: The invention provides a sightglass assembly for viewing the interior of a vessel, such as a reaction vessel for chemical or biochemical reactions, and is adapted to be welded to a vessel wall. The sightglass assembly comprises a window disc fused to a metal frame having a flange extending radially therefrom. The assembly is set into an appropriately sized opening in the vessel wall and the outer perimeter of the flange is welded to the vessel wall. An annular groove in the flange, surrounding the frame and window disc, absorbs stresses created by the heat of welding and thus protects the integrity of the entire unit. When installed, the sightglass assembly and inner face of the tank wall provide an easily cleanable smooth continuous surface, free of recesses and crevasses where bacteria can collect and grow or product from previous batches can accumulate and cause contamination.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2001Date of Patent: March 19, 2002Assignee: J. Patent number: 5841808Abstract: In a new receiver design, the specific transmitter unit is unchanged from a prior patent application but may also be substantially as described in the prior art. The transmitter is initially activated by the input of the pseudo-random generator code. This code may be any alpha-numeric series, but must be identical to that input to the receiver. When the code is input through the keypad, the transmitter uses internal algorithms to generate a unique shift-register feedback combination. This creates a pseudo-random (PN) code which repeats after a programmable number of bits, depending upon desired maximal signal correlation time. That is the longer the code the longer the correlation time. This PN code sequence is clocked at the desired clock (CHIP) rate inside the transmitter unit. The PN code sequence which is thus generated is then added in phase to the data which is a substantially lower rate than the CHIP rate.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1995Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: McDonnell Douglas CorporationInventors: Michael A. Patent number: 5677928Abstract: Digital information is convolved with a pseudorandom code and then transmitted at radio frequency in a spread spectrum signal to a receiver also containing the same pseudorandom code. Since the transmitted signal is below the noise floor for that bandwidth, it is virtually unjammable and undetectable without possession of the pseudorandom code. Successful extraction of the transmitted information depends upon precise matching of the transmitted frequency and the exact phase matching of the pseudorandom code at the receiver with the convolved pseudorandom code in the transmitted signal.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1991Date of Patent: October 14, 1997Assignee: McDonnell Douglas Corp.Inventors: Michael A. Rizzo, Robert E. Gorney, Mark T. Primich

Patent number: 5526086Abstract: The present invention relates to a device used to position and secure smaller sized film, during film processing in a film processor adapted for processing larger sized film. The generally rectangular film carrier transport adaptor is of a size adaptable to pass through film processor used to process larger sized film. The adaptor has one or more apertures extending through the base sheet. Pressure sensitive adhesive is located around the perimeter of each aperture to hold the film to the adaptor. A peelably removable liner is located around the apertures and covers the pressure sensitive adhesive to protect the adhesive until the film is ready to be placed over the aperture and against the adhesive for processing. The film carrier transport adaptor can be comprised of a number of different laminate combinations which are made of materials which will not be damaged or destroyed when exposed to chemicals or rollers during film processing.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1994Date of Patent: June 11, 1996Assignee: Bisco International, Inc.Inventor: Michael Rizzo
