Patent number: 9785627Abstract: A method of creating an electronic file corresponding to a printed artifact may include receiving an image file of a document page. The method may include analyzing the image file to detect a potential form identifier on the document page and automatically (without human intervention) performing a search to identify an actual form that corresponds to the potential form identifier. The method may further include validating that the image file is of a document page that corresponds to the actual form, locating a probable fill-in field on the document page and mapping the probable fill-in field to an actual fill-in field of the actual form.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2014Date of Patent: October 10, 2017Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Michael Robert Campanelli, Reiner Eschbach

Patent number: 9432671Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer readable medium, and apparatus for classifying machine printed text and handwritten text in an input are disclosed. For example, the method defines a perspective for an auto-encoder, receives the input for the auto-encoder, wherein the input comprises a document comprising the machine printed text and the handwritten text, performs an encoding on the input using an auto-encoder to generate a classifier, applies the classifier on the input and generates an output that separates the machine printed text and the handwritten text in the input based on the classifier in accordance with the perspective.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2014Date of Patent: August 30, 2016Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Michael Robert Campanelli, Safwan R. Wshah, Yingbo Zhou

Patent number: 8990676Abstract: A method for processing application forms comprising extracting content from filled first forms of consumers, each of the first forms comprising one or more fields, arranging the extracted content of one or more fields of the plurality of fields of the plurality of filled first forms in a first matrix; encoding the content of each of the rows of the first matrix to define a second matrix; and disposing the encoded content of the second matrix in multiple empty second forms such that content of one column is disposed on only one of the empty second forms, each of the second forms includes the same type and number of fields as that of one of the filled first forms, further wherein the number of the filled second forms is based on the number of the one or more fields in the filled first forms.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2012Date of Patent: March 24, 2015Assignee: Xerox CorpInventors: Nischal M. Piratla, Kovendhan Ponnavaikko, Chithralekha Balamurugan, Michael Robert Campanelli

Patent number: 8867741Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for field level encryption of a document that provides a hardcopy having redacted sensitive information fields with multiple levels of access and an augmented reality view of the hardcopy displaying the unredacted sensitive information fields. Identification of the sensitive information fields may be accomplished via highlight color, user designation, or linguistic analysis. The identified fields are encrypted and may be stored separately, embedded in place, or embedded in a two-dimensional glyph. This information may be stored in association with a device identification of an authenticated mobile device and a document identification. A redacted hardcopy of the original document is output. A mobile device captures an image of the redacted hardcopy, decrypts the encrypted sensitive information fields, and generates an augmented reality view of the hardcopy with the previously redacted sensitive information fields visible on the display of the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2012Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Mary Catherine McCorkindale, Saurabh Prabhat, Michael Robert Campanelli, Vinoth Kumar Arputharaj

Patent number: 8705134Abstract: An image file representing at least a portion of a printed document is processed to highlight the differences between foreground material (e.g., text or other characters) from background. The method includes selecting a neighborhood of pixels, determining a weighted average of an attribute values (e.g., luminance) for each pixel, and modifying each pixel's value based on the weighted average. Graylevel scaling, error diffusion, and a bit level conversion are also performed each pixel ends up with either a first attribute value level (e.g., luminance of 0) or a second attribute value level (e.g., luminance of 255).Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2011Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Inventors: Michael Robert Campanelli, John C. Handley, Dennis L. Venable
