  • Publication number: 20250001075
Abstract: An infusion pump includes a controller that controls the pump's operating states including an initiation state and a current operating state for an infusion. The infusion pump has a clock that tracks the time of the current operating state of the infusion and a memory in communication with the controller and the clock that stores pump settings. The infusion pump includes a primary power source that provides power to the controller, clock, memory, and other pump components required for pumping during an infusion. The pump also includes a backup power source that provides power to the controller, clock, and memory during interruptions in power from the primary power source.

  • Publication number: 20240342362
Abstract: Techniques are provided for identifying an infusion cassette of an infusion pump that are simple to implement yet sophisticated enough to convey pump parameter data to the infusion pump when the infusion cassette is inserted into a receptacle of the infusion pump. The infusion pump includes a pump that acts on tubing to pump fluid through the tubing and a receptacle configured to receive an infusion cassette. The tubing passes through the infusion cassette and engages the pump when the infusion cassette is fully inserted. A detection system identifies the type of infusion cassette and sets and/or limits infusion pump parameters based on the detected type of infusion cassette. The detection system includes sensors within the infusion pump that detect the presence/absence of holes or other types of markings (e.g., colored regions or textured areas) on the infusion cassette in order to determine the type of infusion cassette and associated pumping parameters.

  • Publication number: 20240335608
Abstract: Infusion pump control safeguards are provided by using multiple controller cores to ensure proper operation of an infusion pump. Each controller core controls specific operations of the pump and is interconnected with each other to monitor the operation of the other controller cores. The controller cores may include a pump controller core, the supervisor controller core, a System Controller Core, and a User Interface Controller Core. The Pump Controller Core is dedicated to control pump motor movement. No other controller core has direct access to the pump motor with a limited exception of the supervisor controller core, which can stop power flow to the pump motor in the event any one of the other controller cores is determined to be behaving improperly.

  • Publication number: 20240277920
Abstract: Multiple hardware and software external signaling safeguards are employed by an infusion pump to ensure proper operation and to prevent the possibility of overinfusion or underinfusion due to unauthorized signals. Wireless communications with the infusion pump pass through a communications module, and a collection of interconnected controller cores process communications within the infusion pump. The communication module provides wireless communication and manages all wireless communications with the controller cores. Communication through a wired communication interface is also available but may only be permitted when the infusion pump is not actively infusing. When the infusion pump is actively infusing, no communication via the wired communication interface is permitted. The validity of certificates from external wired and wireless signal sources are checked to ensure the source is authorized to communicate with the infusion pump.

In addition, all communications are expected to utilize proprietary messaging protocols.
