Publication number: 20040074409Abstract: The invention relates to a coating device for a rotary printing machine, especially a sheet printing machine. The aim of the invention is to provide a coating device whose set up time, in particular, is reduced on account of the design thereof and which can be used in a universal manner. The inventive coating device for a rotary printing machine is provided with a printing cylinder (11), a rubber blanket cylinder (9) and a plate cylinder (8) with at least one associated inker unit (15). The inking cylinders (16) of the inker unit can be moved towards and moved away from the plate cylinder. Plate clamping devices are arranged on the periphery of the plate cylinder (8) for fixing a flexible layered body (17) which comprises a supporting layer (18) that can be fixed in the plate clamping devices and at least one compressible rubber layer (19) fixed on top of the supporting layer, in addition to an outer rubber layer (20) fixed on top of the rubber layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2003Publication date: April 22, 2004Inventors: Michael Rother, Jurgen Scholzig, Thomas Walther

Patent number: 6425330Abstract: A method and apparatus for changing a printing plate on a plate cylinder in a sheet-fed offset printing machine is provided. The printing plate is first fed to the plate cylinder with its print-end edge leading the print-start edge. The print-end edge of the printing plate is then fixed in a first fixing device on the plate cylinder assigned to the print-end edge of the printing plate. The plate cylinder is then rotated in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation used during a printing operation to draw the printing plate around the outer circumference of the plate cylinder. The print-start edge of the printing plate is then fixed to a second fixing device on the plate cylinder that is assigned to the print-start edge of the printing plate and tensioned on the plate cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2000Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Karlheinz Weber, Michael Rother, Berthold Seib, Bernd Lindner, Helmut Schild, Reinhold Heilmann

Patent number: 6032581Abstract: The present invention generally describes register control equipment for the cylinder of a printing machine. It specifically pertains to the printing plate of sheet-fed offset printing machine that has fitted register pins. The register pins are electrically insulated with respect to the cylinder and emit a signal when a printing plate is resting in register on one or more of the pins. The signal is communicated to a stationary evaluation unit by an electrical contact adapted to contact the printing plate. The evaluation unit uses the communicated signal to determine whether or not insertion was properly performed.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1999Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Thomas Beutler, Christopher Muth, Michael Rother, Helmut Schild, Peter Biernot, Franz Reiner

Patent number: 5875718Abstract: An device for adjusting the tension applied on a printing plate on a plate cylinder of a sheet fed offset printing machine is provided. The device includes a clamping bar comprising at least one clamping bar section and having a clamping gap which receives an end of the printing plate. Moreover, the clamping bar is arranged so that it can move approximately in the circumferential direction of the plate cylinder. The device further includes a spring element which acts on the clamping bar so as to apply a tensile force on the printing plate. The device also includes an adjusting element pivotally supported on the cylinder such that it can be pivoted counter to the force of a spring from a disengaged position into engagement with the clamping bar in order to selectively reduce the tensile forces exerted on the printing plate by the spring element.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1997Date of Patent: March 2, 1999Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen, AGInventors: Helmut Schild, Michael Rother

Patent number: 5715752Abstract: A device for drawing a printing plate onto a plate cylinder of a printing machine is disclosed. In order to precisely position the folding strip relative to the printing cylinder during the drawing-on procedure, the folding strip of the device is provided with two pairs of adjustable stops. When inserting the printing plate into the clamping rail, a pair of adjustable clamping stops position the folding strip relative to the plate cylinder so that the leading edge of the printing plate is precisely aligned with the clamping rail. On the other hand, when inserting the printing plate into the tension rail, a pair of tensioning stops position the folding rail relative to the plate cylinder so that the trailing edge of the printing plate is bent to the precise angle necessary for its introduction into the tension rail.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1996Date of Patent: February 10, 1998Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Michael Rother, Helmut Schild

Patent number: 5309839Abstract: Method and apparatus for the varnishing and printing of sheets in a printing machine. A feed drum incorporates a counterpressure surface to form a first nip with an impression cylinder. As sheets are fed to the impression cylinder and transported through the first nip, a constant pressure at the first nip consistently transfers ink to a verso side of each sheet. Arranged thereafter, a varnishing cylinder supplied with a quantity of varnish contacts the impression cylinder creating a second nip. As the sheet passes through the second nip, the recto side of the sheet is coated with the varnish. The impression cylinder thus receives a constant pressure for transferring ink to the sheet independent of the pressure provided by the varnishing cylinder. Accordingly, even a partial or intermittent varnishing of the recto sheet side has no adverse effect on print quality, and the sheet does not have to be transferred from the impression cylinder to a separate varnishing unit.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1993Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Georg Hartung, Michael Rother
