  • Patent number: 11969877
Abstract: A technique for facilitating deployment and stowing of a ballistic shield on a vehicle includes providing a central armored panel having a hinged connection to a base, which may be coupled to or integral with the vehicle. The hinged connection includes an axle and a set of torsion springs configured to exert a lifting torque on the central armored panel relative to the base, such that the central armored panel is movable about the hinged connection for assuming both an upright, deployed position and a laid-down, stowed position.

Abstract: Pipe sections and methods for forming pipe sections are disclosed. A pipe section includes a hollow body, the hollow body having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface defining an interior. The pipe section further includes a barrier layer surrounding the hollow body, the barrier layer having an inner surface and an outer surface. The barrier layer is formed from a polyarylene sulfide composition. The polyarylene sulfide composition includes a polyarylene sulfide and a crosslinked impact modifier. Such pipe sections exhibit high strength characteristics and flexibility as well as resistance to degradation, even in extreme temperature environments, while maintaining desirable processing characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20150017416
Abstract: Composite rods and tapes are provided. In one embodiment, a composite rod includes a core, the core including a thermoplastic material and a plurality of continuous fibers embedded in the thermoplastic material. The plurality of continuous fibers have a generally unidirectional orientation within the thermoplastic material. The core further includes one or more sensing elements embedded in the thermoplastic material. The core has a void fraction of about 5% or less. A sensing element may be, for example, fiber optic cable, a radio frequency identification transmitter, a copper fiber, or an aluminum fiber.
