  • Patent number: 5462554
Abstract: An ear tag applicator having pivotally connected handles each having a jaw. One of the jaws has a tag engaging pin which is biased into a nearly perpendicular orientation with respect to the opposing jaw. A biasing spring allows the pin and the tag held thereby to pivot relative to the jaw at all times so that the device will not tear or rip the animals ear during its application.

  • Patent number: 5228224
Abstract: A stand-alone ear tag is provided; with a main body portion, a neck portion and a head portion integrally connected to the distal end of the neck portion, the head portion having cutting means for piercing an animals ear and the neck portion having a bore or cavity being adapted to receive a driving means wherein the bore or cavity is arranged so as to shield the driving means from contact with the animal during the application.

  • Patent number: 4819639
Abstract: An applicator of the present invention generally comprises too pivotally connected handle members, extending into upper and lower jaws. The lower jaw includes a lip, the lower jaw and lip defining a space into which an animals ear is located. The lower jaw further includes a recess, with a pivotal bar extending thereacross. In use, an eartag is positioned on a pivotally mounted pin. The handles are brought together, bringing the pin and tag passed the lip portion, through the ear of the animal (forming a cut therein) and through the recess described above. The pivotal bar stops or at least reduces movement of the ear into the recess, which has previously resulted in too large a cut being formed in the ear, and which has made the tag more difficult to apply.

  • Patent number: 4646455
Abstract: This invention relates to an animal identification tag and in particular to tags such as ear tags for use with animals. The identification tag includes one or more components, at least one of which is adapted to engage with the skin of an animal so as to engage an identification portion with and relative to, the animal. One or more holes or slots are formed or provided in and passing through, at least one of the components; which component will, in use, be positioned or located over and adjacent a cut or slit formed in the skin of the animal, so as to allow for location of the identification tag. The arrangement of the invention is such that the one or more holes or slots are provided in said tag, so that air and/or light have access to the cut or slit formed in the skin of the animal.

  • Patent number: 4552147
Abstract: The invention relates to an applicator for a tag for use on livestock such as cattle, sheep, dogs and the like. The applicator includes at least two pivotally connected handle members which extend into upper and lower jaws. A pin mounting is pivotally connected to the upper jaw member, an elongate pin, to which an ear tag can be attached, being pivotally connected adjacent to one end of the pin mounting. A pin restraining housing is provided adjacent an end of the upper jaw member. The pin mounting normally urges at least part of the pin to be located within the pin restraining housing. The lower jaw member is formed or provided with an actuator such as in the form of a cam surface. On the handles and jaws being closed, the activator comes into contact with the pin mounting, this causing the pin mounting to pivot about its connection to the upper jaw member, allowing the pin to move out of the pin restraining housing.
