  • Patent number: 7984875
Abstract: A door system for an aircraft has a flight deck door hingely coupled to a flight deck bulkhead. A lavatory is adjacent to the flight deck bulkhead and formed of a lavatory bulkhead. A lavatory door is coupled to the lavatory bulkhead. A latching mechanism is attached to the flight deck door. The latching mechanism in a first position engages the flight deck bulkhead and in a second position engages the lavatory bulkhead.

Date of Patent: July 26, 2011
    Assignee: The Boeing Company
Inventors: Michael S. Koehn, Mark G. Feuerstein, Andrew Sones, James Johnson
  • Patent number: 7872589
Abstract: A system for controlling lighting of an instrument panel has a sensor for monitoring activity near the instrument panel. A lighting control unit is coupled to the sensor and a lighting system of the instrument panel. The lighting control unit controls the light intensity of the lighting system. The lighting control unit increases the intensity of the lighting system when the sensor monitors activity near the instrument panel.

  • Patent number: 5351898
Abstract: An airplane, such as a supersonic airplane, includes at least one viewing tunnel located behind the cockpit instrument panel for allowing the pilot to see in front of and to the side of the airplane during low speed flight. The viewing tunnel is especially useful during landing approaches and touchdown when the airplane's high angle of attack and long nose prevents the pilot from seeing the landing environment through the conventional forward cockpit windows. The viewing tunnel allows the pilot to see through a large opening in the bottom and sides of the airplane. This opening is covered by canards during high speed flight and uncovered during low speed flight when the canards are moved to the extended position to provide additional control authority for the airplane.
