Patent number: 8301230Abstract: A computer-based method for reducing or eliminating baseline drift from a biological (bio) signal includes the steps of dividing the bio signal into a plurality of shorter signals having fixed time intervals, fitting a corresponding portion of a baseline function to a baseline of a respective one of each of the shorter signals, and subtracting the baseline function from the bio signal, resulting in a bio signal with a flat baseline.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2008Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.Inventor: Michael S. Toth

Patent number: 8073218Abstract: A computer-based method for detecting features in a digitally sampled biological (bio) signal includes the steps of applying a wavelet transform to the bio signal to generate a list of wavelet transform coefficients, ranking the coefficients according to value or frequency, and removing at least one low value or low frequency coefficient. The method further includes the steps of performing an inverse wavelet transform using the remaining coefficients to generate a reconstructed signal, and detecting feature locations using the reconstructed signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2008Date of Patent: December 6, 2011Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Michael S. Publication number: 20100131434Abstract: An automated patient-management system for efficiently reporting patient information to clinicians, and a method of operation thereof is described. The system automatically collects and analyzes historic-physiologic data indicative of a patient's health from a myriad of sources. Based on the historic-physiologic data, the system automatically generates a health-risk score indicative of whether a patient will experience a serious-medical event in the near future (e.g., a predetermined time interval). The system uses a processing model that may rely on Hierarchical-Temporal Memory techniques and other models, for extracting and analyzing patient data. The system also generates an integrated synopsis of a patient's health condition, including the health-risk score. The synopsis is then presented (served) to a clinician in an organized, simplified, and effective manner via a client-side user interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 24, 2008Publication date: May 27, 2010Applicant: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Michael Andrew Magent, Sean Michael Nevins, Steven Michael Paris, Michael S. Publication number: 20100076689Abstract: A computer-based method for extracting waveform attributes from a biological (bio) signal includes the steps of receiving a raw waveform data corresponding to the bio signal, upon receiving a user-initiated signal, communicating the raw data to a first waveform analysis tool to obtain a first waveform attribute, and upon receiving the same user-initiated signal, communicating the raw data to a second waveform analysis tool to obtain a second waveform attribute. The first tool is different from the second tool and the first attribute is different from the second attribute. The method also includes outputting the first and second waveform attributes into a human-readable format.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2008Publication date: March 25, 2010Applicant: Ari Products and Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Rishikant K. Chaturvedi, Michael S. Toth

Publication number: 20100076799Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for predicting rare events, such as hospitalization events. A set of data records, each containing multiple attributes with one or more values (which may include an “unknown” value), may represent a root node of a decision tree. This root node may be partitioned based on one of the attributes, such that the concentration (e.g., “purity”) of a relevant outcome (e.g., the rare event) is increased in one node and decreased in another. This process may be repeated until a decision tree with sufficiently pure leaf nodes is created. This “purified” decision tree may then be used to predict one or more rare events.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2008Publication date: March 25, 2010Applicant: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Michael Andrew Magent, Debashis Neogi, Sanjay Mehta, Jean Jenkins, Malcolm Merritt Waring, Charles Roland Lewis, Michael S. Patent number: 6778665Abstract: A line powered data access arrangement (DAA) is disclosed which adaptively allows proper operation with power supplied from a telephone line as conditions warrant, while at the same time satisfying the relevant requirements of many countries. In the line powered codec, a startup procedure for the international line powered codec uses register settings, e.g., country-specific register settings, which are powered and maintained from the low voltage side (e.g., from the PC or modem side) of the line powered codec. In this way, even during low line power conditions the programmed state of the line powered codec can be maintained, thus a default condition will not necessarily returned to by the line powered codec upon reset due to a power loss in the telephone line. In another aspect, a charge storage device such as a charge capacitor is charged from a charge pump formed from a differential clock signal from the low voltage side.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1999Date of Patent: August 17, 2004Assignee: Agere Systems Inc.Inventors: Jonathan H. Fischer, Donald R. Laturell, Lane A. Smith, Michael S. Toth, Michael G. Williams

Patent number: 6687371Abstract: A line powered codec which adaptively allows operation with power supplied from a telephone line in many countries as conditions warrant. A startup procedure uses country-specific register settings, which are powered and maintained from a low voltage side other than the telephone line. Thus, during low line power conditions a programmed state of the line powered codec can be maintained even after a power loss in the telephone line. In another aspect, a current and voltage detection module in the line powered codec is always powered from the telephone line. If sufficient power is not present, the line powered codec does not power up. In yet another aspect, a plurality of power rails may be provided.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1999Date of Patent: February 3, 2004Assignee: Agere Systems Inc.Inventors: Jonathan H. Fischer, Donald R. Laturell, Lane A. Smith, Michael S. Toth, Michael G. Williams
