  • Publication number: 20100256479
Abstract: Methods of manufacturing a custom arthroplasty resection guide or jig are disclosed herein. For example, one method may include: generating MRI knee coil two dimensional images, wherein the knee coil images include a knee region of a patient; generating MRI body coil two dimensional images, wherein the body coil images include a hip region of the patient, the knee region of the patient and an ankle region of the patient; in the knee coil images, identifying first locations of knee landmarks; in the body coil images, identifying second locations of the knee landmarks; run a transformation with the first and second locations, causing the knee coil images and body coil images to generally correspond with each other with respect to location and orientation.

  • Publication number: 20100023131
Abstract: An implant is provided for replacing the proximal portion of a femur having a substantially intact natural femoral neck and a lateral side opposite the femoral neck, with a bore extending from the femoral neck through a lateral side of the femur. The implant comprises a sleeve having a flange for engaging a proximally facing resected surface of the neck surrounding the bore in the femur and having a bore with an inwardly tapered conical portion. A shaft member having a longitudinal axis, a distal end, and a proximal end is placed in the bore through the femur. The shaft member has an intermediate conically tapered male portion for coupling to the conically tapered bore of the sleeve and a proximal end having a conically tapered portion. A head member having a distal end and a proximal substantially-spherical portion and a tapered recess is configured for positioning in a natural or prosthetic hip socket.

  • Publication number: 20090270874
Abstract: A modular hip body/stem inserter comprises a stem inserter and a holder. A proximal body portion of an implant is loaded, or mounted, onto the holder. A distal stem portion of the implant is affixed onto the stem inserter. The modular hip body/stem inserter maintains the proximal body portion and distal stem portion a short distance apart. The stem inserter can be adjusted to control the version of the distal stem, while the holder can be independently adjusted to control the version of the proximal body. Once the version is adjusted to determine a final seating position, the stem inserter portion is removed and the holder is then used to impact the proximal body and distal stem together, thereby locking the implant components together through a taper locking mechanism.
