  • Patent number: 7732548
Abstract: Water-soluble copolymers and terpolymers as stabilizers for aqueous building material systems and water-based paint and coating systems are described. Advantages of the copolymers and terpolymers used according to the invention compared to conventional products are firstly the very good stabilizing properties of the building material systems or water-based paint and coating systems produced correspondingly and secondly the fact that the viscosity of the systems is barely increased, so that these have excellent processability.

  • Publication number: 20100087569
Abstract: The invention relates to a hydrophobically modified cationic copolymer which has at least three different structural units. Particularly in combination with anionic surfactants, a considerable improvement in the water retention in aqueous building material systems based on hydraulic binders, such as cement, can be achieved even in the case of high salt loads.

  • Patent number: 7605196
Abstract: The invention relates to water-soluble copolymers used as water retention agents, stabilizers and rheology modifiers in aqueous building material systems based on hydraulic binders such as cement, lime, plaster, anhydrite etc. and in water-based paint and coating systems. The inventive copolymers are highly effective water retention agents even when used in relatively small amounts. They also exhibit excellent air pore stability and adhesiveness. They can also be used as stabilizers in building material and paint systems.

  • Publication number: 20090186964
Abstract: A polymeric composition consisting of water-soluble or water-swellable copolymers containing sulfo groups and nonionic polysaccharide derivatives, such as methylcellulose (MC), hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC), methylhydroxyethylcellulose (MHEC), methylhydroxypropylcellulose (MHPC) and welan gum or diutan gum, and the use thereof as an additive in aqueous construction systems based on hydraulic binders, such as cement, lime, gypsum or anhydrite, is described. The composition can also be used in water-based paint and coating systems. The composition according to the invention exhibits a synergistic improvement of the properties and, when used in relatively small amounts, constitutes highly effective water retention agents in such construction and paint systems, which also achieve outstanding air pore stability and tack.

  • Patent number: 7238760
Abstract: The invention relates to water-soluble or water-swellable copolymers which contain sulfo groups and which are based on (meth)acrylamide-alkylsulfonic acids and (meth)acrylamide or N-vinyl compounds, and to their use as additives for aqueous construction materials systems or for water-based paint and coating systems. The inventive copolymers also represent water retention agents which are highly effective, even when used in relatively small quantities, and which are highly compatible in construction material and paint systems of this type.

  • Patent number: 6346588
Abstract: Terpolymers based on (meth)acrylamide, hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate and sulfobetaine monomers and their use as thickeners for aqueous salt solutions are described. The terpolymers display their thickening effect within wide concentration and density ranges of the aqueous salt solutions. In addition, their thermal stability is retained also with respect to salt solutions containing calcium chloride and/or calcium bromide and/or zinc bromide.
