  • Patent number: 7740588
Abstract: A combined respiratory and heart rate sensor for a mammal has a flexible support with a surface adapted to be positioned over the skin of a mammal. A pair of inductive coil or capacitive plate elements, spaced apart by a foam spacer having openings therein, are attached to the support surface and are capable of independently sensing respiratory movement of the mammal in a direction perpendicular to the support surface and producing an output signal proportional thereto. The heart rate sensor includes an LED attached to the flexible support capable, and at least two light-detecting elements spaced apart from the LED, each capable of independently sensing light radiation reflected through the skin and capillaries from the light-emitting element and producing an output signal proportional thereto. A barrier layer attached to the support shield from the light-detecting elements light radiation that is not emitted from the LED.

  • Patent number: 6970090
Abstract: A pet tracking collar comprises a length of clear flexible tubing having a fastener adapted to fasten around the pet. Hermetically sealed within the tubing is an electrical ribbon cable extending through the length thereof. A plurality of light-emitting diodes, visible through the clear tubing, are wirelessly connected at spaced intervals to the cable. The tracking collar also includes an antenna within the electrical ribbon cable, and a radio transmitter secured to the cable adapted to transmit a radio frequency signal. The cable is secured within the flexible tubing such that strain along the length of the tubing is not transmitted to the cable therein. The collar's battery compartment has sufficient clearance between the battery and walls of the battery compartment to shed water after the collar is wetted. A radio frequency signal receiver determines direction or distance of the collar with respect to the receiver.

  • Patent number: 5919141
Abstract: A device for remote monitoring of hospitalized patient vital signs is incorporated into a portable housing, wearable by an ambulatory patient. Interfaces are provided for external connection of pulse oximetry, ECG, respiration, temperature, and blood pressure transducers. An RF transmitter transmits analog and digital vital sign data to a remote monitoring station.

  • Patent number: 4842282
Abstract: A board game in which the board has a playing surface formed into squares arranged into rows and columns, the end portions of which define the territory of the two players. Each territory has a plurality of consecutively numbered squares, arranged in a triangle, which constitute the array by which similarly-numbered playing pieces must be arranged in order to win the game. Each player's playing pieces are arranged in a starting array in his territory, and he must move his pieces toward the other player's territory and arrange his pieces in the opposing player's triangular array of numbered squares, with like-numbered pieces being positioned in like-numbered squares. Diagonal moves are not allowed, but sideways, rearward, and forward moves are allowed, as well as jumping of opposing pieces as long as an empty square is directly next to the opposing piece in the direction of the jump.

  • Patent number: 4539440
Abstract: An in-canal hearing aid is inserted and worn within the auditory canal of a hard-of-hearing wearer. This hearing aid has a generally-cylindrical body with a resilient stretchable outer layer and an adjustably expandable member therewithin for changing the diameter of the generally cylindrical body without significantly changing the length thereof. Hearing aid amplifying circuitry are contained within the generally cylindrical body. The body is hingedly flexible and a flex circuit connector is used to support the amplifying circuitry. These features permit rounding the curve of the auditory canal when the hearing aid is inserted. The body of the hearing aid can be selectively expanded for a snug, comfortable fit. A touch control permits the wearer to adjust the volume by touching a single control stem extending from the external end of the hearing aid.
