Patent number: 7344524Abstract: A disposable absorbent article is disclosed having a waist opening and a pair of leg openings. The absorbent article has first, second and third pairs of leg elastics secured between an outer cover and an inner liner. The first, second and third leg elastics are arranged around each of the pair of leg openings with each of the third pair of leg elastics being positioned intermediate one of each of the first and second pairs of leg elastics. Each of the third pair of leg elastics is also separated from one of the first pair of leg elastics by a first gap and from one of the second pair of leg elastics by a second gap.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2004Date of Patent: March 18, 2008Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Tim Richard Cazzato, Paul Joseph Datta, Jacqueline Ann Gross, Michael Barth Venturino, Steven Lambert Weyenberg, Michael Scott Brunner

Patent number: 6682514Abstract: A garment is provided with an elastomeric element having first and second elastic segments made of different elastomeric polymers and connected in series. The first elastic segment can be made from a relatively higher performance, more expensive polymer. The second elastic segment can be made from a relatively less expensive elastic polymer having moderate performance characteristics. The hybrid elastic band provides durable high elastic performance in regions of the garment where these properties are needed, while minimizing the total cost of the band.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1999Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide Inc.Inventor: Michael Scott Brunner

Patent number: 6627564Abstract: A laminate is provided that is highly conformable to the contours of a wearer's body when used in a personal care absorbent article or a medical article. The laminate is extendible in its cross direction to a width at least 25% greater than an original, unstretched width upon application of a stretching force and exhibits little or no retractive force in the cross direction once they have been stretched. Elastic elements are placed to provide stretch and recovery in the machine direction of the laminate without affecting the inelasticity of the cross direction. When the garment is worn, the laminate is extendible only in one axis where needed to provide a substantially perfect fit on the wearer while the retractive force provided in a second axis of the laminate helps ensure snug fit.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2000Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Michael Tod Morman, Michael Scott Brunner, Paul J. Datta, Jacqueline A. Gross

Publication number: 20020066698Abstract: A gravity-flow filter system is provided having an upper and lower reservoir separated by a filter; an elongate tube places the filter in fluid communication with the lower reservoir and is selected to have a size such that the natural flow rate of the filter allows the tube to be completely flooded and yet has a flow rate equal to or greater than the average natural flow rate of the filter. The water flowing down the elongate tube into the lower reservoir creates a siphonic drawing force that increases the flow rate of the filter as well as the filter life.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 4, 2000Publication date: June 6, 2002Inventor: Michael Scott Brunner

Publication number: 20020009940Abstract: A targeted elastic laminate material having different zones of tension across a width of a material roll and methods for making the same. At least two polymers or polymer blends having different set properties are used to produce varying tension zones across the material. The targeted elastic laminate material has elastic properties that provide improved fit characteristics to disposable personal care products, while maintaining a flat roll profile that allows the material to be easily processed at a high speed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2001Publication date: January 24, 2002Inventors: Raymond Jeffrey May, James Marcus Carr, Michael Scott Brunner, Lavada Campbell Boggs, Hannong Rhim, James Russell Fitts,, Kenneth Michael Salter, Victor Charles Lang, Adrian Roy Eggen, Oomman Painumoottil Thomas

Patent number: 5797892Abstract: A toilet training aid is in the form of a pad that creates a noticeable, distinct feeling during urination. In particular embodiments, the pad may provide the wearer with a temperature change sensation, a wet sensation, a dimensional change sensation, or some combination thereof to signal that urination is occurring. The toilet training aids are desirably attached to a garment by a consumer, thus enabling the consumer to select the type of accompanying garment and the particular time that is best suited to toilet training.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1995Date of Patent: August 25, 1998Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Frank Steven Glaug, Michael Scott Brunner, Faith Eileen Cochrane, Debra Hartley Durrance, Christopher Peter Olson, Robert Joseph Schleinz, Richard Harry Thiessen

Patent number: 5681298Abstract: An absorbent article such as a training pant includes a moisture barrier, an absorbent assembly, and a temperature change member. The temperature change member includes a temperature change substance that provides a possible total energy change of from about 6 to about 30 cal/cm.sup.2 to assist the wearer in recognizing that urination has occurred.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1994Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Michael Scott Brunner, Debra Hartley Durrance
