The A-column and cross strut are spaced apart from each other and joined with a lateral wall section of the passenger compartment. A cladding section is further arranged on the side facing the vehicle interior, which is joined with the A-column. The A-column accommodates an airbag that is arranged between the A-column and the first cladding section, and extends toward the front until over the area where the cross strut engages the A-column.
