  • Publication number: 20230332727
Abstract: A protector is proposed for an end of an elongate member, such as an end of a pipe or tube. The protector comprises a rigid portion which has a body portion for insertion into a cavity defined by an end portion of the elongate member, and a cover portion extending from the body portion. The protector further comprises a flexible portion provided on an outer surface of the body portion. The flexible portion comprises one or more resilient members. When the body portion is received within the cavity of the elongate member, the resilient members engage the inner surface of the cavity, and the cover portion covers an end surface of the elongate member.

  • Publication number: 20220372833
Abstract: A well tool device for forming a permanent well barrier includes a housing having a circular cross-section and a longitudinal extension; a pyrotechnic mixture provided in the housing; a flow generating device provided in the housing; and a motor for driving the flow generating device. After ignition, the pyrotechnic mixture turns into a molten mass; and the flow generating device is configured to generate a forced flow of the molten mass. A method for forming a permanent well barrier using the well tool device includes installing the well tool device in a well; and igniting the pyrotechnic mixture. The pyrotechnic mixture turns into a molten mass upon ignition. The method further includes starting the motor; and generating a forced flow of molten mass by the flow generating device.

  • Patent number: 10883329
Abstract: A system and a method of an ignitor for electrical ignition of an exothermic mixture to be used in wells, for the purposes of reinstatement of a barrier in well(s), subterranean storage reservoirs for a variety of potential environmental damaging materials such as CO2, radioactive storage, and other uses. Additionally, the ignitor may include a housing with a compartment within the housing, a first exothermic mixture of at least a metal and an oxide provided in the compartment, a first electrode connectable to a first terminal of a power supply, and a second electrode connectable to a second terminal of the power supply.

  • Publication number: 20190032440
Abstract: A well operation tool may be used in a pressurized environment, where the pressurized environment has a pressure above 1 atmospheric pressure, and a method of preventing inflow into the well operation tool. Additionally, the well operation tool may include a pressure-sealed housing, a combustion chamber provided within the pressure-sealed housing, an ignition material provided within the combustion chamber, an ignition device for igniting the ignition material, and a gas producing material provided within the combustion chamber. Furthermore, the gas producing material is configured to release gas when subjected to a temperature above a threshold value due to an ignition of the ignition material.
