  • Patent number: 9817353
Abstract: A method and system for managing one or more high frequency service items associated with a device. A parent/child relationship between the high frequency service items can be defined to track replacement of components based on a service action related to a child component. A taxonomy of related service items and servicing functions can be specified in an XML document associated with the rendering system. The relationship between the high frequency service items can be indicated utilizing a related component indicator and a HFSI counter. A parent component can be replaced by a maintenance operator and an aggregate child component can be rebuilt by a service engineer in order to retain the component life thereby reducing down time and service costs.

  • Publication number: 20110141912
Abstract: A method and system determine if a failed part failed prematurely by evaluating whether the failed part failed within one of a plurality of predetermined threshold usage ranges. The predetermined threshold ranges are less than a predicted full useful life of the failed part. Therefore, if the part failed within one of the usage ranges it would be considered to have failed before its predicted full useful life and to have failed prematurely. If the failed part failed prematurely, the method cross-references a service recommendation table to identify a service recommendation based on which of the predetermined threshold usage ranges the failed part failed within. The service recommendation table provides different service recommendations for different predetermined threshold usage ranges of different parts. The service recommendations are often recommendations that adjust or replace items other than the failed part itself.

  • Publication number: 20070158897
Abstract: Sheet separation, feeding and printing with reduced image deletions of various types of print media sheets from a stack thereof, especially coated print media sheets with high humidity adhesion difficulties, is assisted by a sheet air puffer for a sheet separator/feeder having an automatically variably heated air supply. This may be accomplished by electronically obtaining information on the selected type of print media sheets to be fed from the sheet separator/feeder, and the ambient conditions, including at least the humidity, and by combining that information in an electronic look-up table additionally provided with set points to produce a control signal for variable air puffer temperature and strength.

  • Publication number: 20070104519
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for reducing transfer deletions in an electrostatographic machine. The apparatus comprises a registration mechanism controller for driving a registration mechanism in the process direction. The apparatus also includes a system controller operably associated with the registration mechanism controller. The system controller monitors at least one operating parameter of an image forming apparatus and generates a control signal in response to the monitored operating parameter(s). The registration mechanism controller is responsive to the control signal and drives the registration mechanism at a velocity that corresponds to the control signal. The apparatus further includes a transfer assist mechanism movably mounted adjacent a photoreceptive member so the transfer assist mechanism may be moved from a non-operative position to an operative position to provide substantially uniform contact between a print substrate supplied from said registration mechanism and said photoreceptive member.

  • Publication number: 20070098446
Abstract: An improved coronode assembly includes pin guards that are positioned closely spaced from and extending above a coronode in order to provide protection for a user reaching past the coronode to remove a sheet jam, and prevent coronode damage when the coronode is handled during servicing by a field service technician. The closeness of the pin guards to the coronode also serves to produce a more uniform field.

  • Publication number: 20070065173
Abstract: In a xerographic printing apparatus, a charge device is used to apply a charge to a photoreceptor. The shuttle includes a wiper that cleans a sidewall of the charge device. A tab is disposed adjacent the sidewall to retain toner or dirt accumulated by the scraper. The tab is electrically insulative, and effectively covers the accumulated toner or dirt, to lower the possibility of arcing within the charge device.

  • Publication number: 20070065172
Abstract: In a xerographic printing apparatus, a charge device is used to apply a charge to a photoreceptor. The charge device includes a wire. A shuttle moves along the charge device, and includes a brush wherein the sides of the bristles contact the wire. When the brush moves along the wire, an accumulation of stray particles on the wire is made relatively smooth.

  • Publication number: 20070048034
Abstract: An apparatus for assisting in the transfer of an image from an image bearing member onto a copy substrate, comprises an image bearing member carrying an image to be transferred, a feed mechanism for feeding a copy substrate to the image bearing member, and a transfer assist mechanism movable to an activated position bearing on the substrate to maintain the substrate in contact with the image bearing member to assist in transferring the image thereto, and to a de-activated position. A sensor generates a signal in response to passage of the leading edge and the trailing edge of the substrate to ascertain an actual length of the substrate as it moves to the image bearing member. A controller is operable to direct the transfer assist mechanism to move to the activated position and then to direct the transfer assist mechanism to move to the de-activated position after a de-activation dwell time.

  • Publication number: 20060051132
Abstract: A belt photoreceptor in a xerographic printer is entrained on a roller formed from a set of discs. Each disc defines an outer circumference and a flexible main portion. The outer circumferences of a set of discs effectively form a single outer surface of the roller. The discs are flexible and can move against each other, to allow stabilization of the photoreceptor belt, but are in sufficient contact with one another to enable heat to be distributed evenly across the roller.
