  • Patent number: 11971438
Abstract: Described herein is a lightning detection sensor. The lightning detection sensor comprises a sensing element that detects radio-frequency (RF) signals relating to lightning activity, a circuit that receives the detected RF signals from the sensing element and amplifies the RF signals for output to a digital signal processing device, and a reference element coupled to the circuit. The reference element is connected to an antenna ground that is isolated from a power ground, and the reference element and the antenna ground are not connected to an external ground plane.

  • Patent number: 11919101
Abstract: A butt-welding device and a method for butt welding workpieces, especially for double-upset resistance-pressure butt-welding of workpieces, particularly wires, strands and profiles, has first and second clamping members for receiving the ends of the workpieces that are to be joined. At least one clamping means can be moved between a starting position and a welding position. At least one deburring tool is provided for deburring the welded workpiece ends. In addition, at least one sensor is provided to determine the geometric dimensions of the workpieces that are to be joined, especially the diameter, the width or the height in the joining plane or substantially parallel thereto, wherein a control unit controls the movement of the clamping members and/or of the deburring tool as a function of the geometric dimension.

  • Publication number: 20240068558
Abstract: Magnetically-assisted mechanical gear systems and other power transmission systems, and related methods of operation and assembly, are disclosed herein. In an example embodiment, such a system includes a driving gear, a driven gear, and a first magnetomotive force (MMF) source that generates a magnetic flux. A first portion of the flux is communicated between at least one driving gear teeth and at least one driven gear teeth so that one or more magnetic forces are exerted between the gears. When the first rotational movement of the driving gear alternates from being in the first rotational direction to being in a third rotational direction opposite the first rotational direction, then the driven gear is driven by the one or more magnetic forces so that the second rotational movement also alternates, and a first amount of backlash movement between the driving and driven gears is avoided or reduced.

  • Publication number: 20230052797
Abstract: A stage hoist motor assembly includes a first electric motor including a first brake and a second electric motor including a second brake. The first electric motor and the second electric motor are stacked one atop the other within a common plane. A cable winch is rotatable about a winch axis and includes a cable winch shaft that is driven by the first and second electric motors through respective ones of a first drive coupling and a second drive coupling. A width of the motors is less than a width of the winch. Moreover, the motors are stacked one atop the other within a common plane to provide a compact foot print that is favorable to use in performance venue environments.

  • Patent number: 11513256
Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems for locating lightning activity. A server computing device receives, from a satellite that detects lightning activity occurring in a geographic region, location coordinates and time data associated with lightning activity detected by the satellite. The server captures, from at least one of one or more ground-based lightning sensors that detect lightning activity, lightning feature data for lightning activity detected by the at least one of one or more ground-based lightning sensors. The server computing device determines a location of the lightning activity within the geographic region using the lightning feature data and the location coordinates and time data. The server computing device transmits the determined location of the lightning activity to one or more remote computing devices.

  • Patent number: 10790766
Abstract: A dynamic energy harvesting and variable harvesting force system is disclosed. A boost converter increases a motor voltage as a motor current associated with the motor voltage propagates through the boost converter thereby generating a boost voltage associated with the changing motor current. A power storage device stores energy harvested by the boost converter when the boost voltage exceeds an energy storage threshold. A controller dynamically adjusts a harvesting force applied by the motor so that the harvesting force is relative to the force applied to the motor. The controller also dynamically adjusts the harvested energy stored by the power storage device by adjusting the charging of the power storage device, ensuring that the boost voltage threshold is maintained. The boost voltage when maintained within the boost voltage threshold enables the power storage device to store the harvested energy without impacting the harvesting force applied by the motor.

  • Patent number: 9608364
Abstract: A circuit board that is to be mounted in a connector socket includes a plurality of electrical connectors located along a side edge of the circuit board. Retention bosses are formed on first and second opposite sides of the circuit board, each of the retention bosses protruding from a surface of the circuit board and extending parallel to and adjacent to the first edge of the circuit board. When the first edge of the circuit board is inserted into a slot of a connector socket, contact surfaces of the first and second retention bosses contact top surfaces of the connector socket to help immobilize the circuit board with respect to the connector socket. Adhesive layers on the contact surfaces of the first and second retention bosses may adhere to the top surfaces of the connector socket to help hold the circuit board immobile with respect to the connector socket.

  • Patent number: 9075581
Abstract: A plenum for guiding a flow of cooling air through the interior of a computer is designed to maximize the airflow over those electrical components within the computer which are most sensitive to temperature, and/or which require the greatest amount of cooling. The plenum is designed to be mounted over top of a computer motherboard which includes a plurality of electrical components mounted thereon. One or more apertures are formed in the lower wall of the plenum so that electrical components mounted on the computer motherboard can protrude through the apertures and into the interior of the plenum. The lower surface of the plenum is designed to prevent the flow of cooling air passing through the plenum from escaping through the apertures on the lower wall. Also, upper and lower protrusions on the plenum can extend into the interior of the plenum to concentrate the flow of cooling air onto the electrical components which are protruding through the apertures and into plenum.

  • Publication number: 20130166311
Abstract: A reference architecture embodies a common, consistent, known best practice base reference architecture and configuration that may then be used for cloning out for the base of every customer environment. Given this base, the service provider is able to control the full functionality solution layer to provide the platform for consistent monitoring, patching, upgrading, etc. Accordingly, the service provider's application solution is an integrated appliance that can contain whatever is necessary at the solution layer to allow the service provider to remotely (or within the hosting center) support, maintain and gather key system metrics to promote optimal customer performance, decrease cost of implementation/support/ownership and vastly increase service offering base.
